Unfortunately, you're probably right. However it's still a good article about him for those of us who aren't so familiar with him. Interested to know what people's reactions would be if he became head coach.

Well if he had won the pats gm, it would have been more impressive, but a 3 gm sample is not really much to go on.

I like him, but want more of a sure thing.

Bowles intrigues me more than Fisher. I'm not all that enthused for a guy that made the playoffs 5 times in 16 years. Sparano was on a similar clip.

Why is Bowles even a HC candidate? His name has been mentioned in the past but I'm not sure why. What exactly has he accomplished as a db coach?

    BOWLES!

I think he has earned a HC job. Bring in his buddy Darrell Green to take his spot as DB coach, sign Matt Flynn in FA, select the best skilled position player available in the draft (Blackmon/Richardson) and we should be good to go.

Let Flynn and Moore battle it out in camp.

Edit: I wonder how many Dolphans know Coach Bowles has a Super Bowl ring as a player.

Umm, in all fairness this coach was in the same division as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns prior to realignment and Indianapolis and Jacksonville after realignment. I wouldn't say Tennessee's lack of playoff appearances is more of a testament to the quality of their divisional opponents and less of an indictment on Jeff Fisher.

Also, look at the soap opera that became of Tennessee in Fisher's final few years there with the Vince Young saga. That was a battle between Jeff Fisher and Bud Adams, much like the soap opera that doomed Oakland coaches Jon Gruden and Mike Shannahan with Al Davis and who became Super Bowl winning coaches following their departure from that fiasco.

Sometimes its not about what you've accomplished as a position coach, its about what you bring to the table as a person, in a leadership role, in your visions and your plans for how you are going to move the team forward as the leader of the staff, and leader of the players. More people need to understand that. There's an article floating around on Bowles, with some pretty high recommendations from some pretty important NFL people. Not because he's a good secondary coach, but because he's a good coach, and good leader. Afterall, that's what we need to be looking for here.

See, this is a big reason why I wanted Sparano gone at the bye (0-5). We would've all had a much better idea about Bowles had he coached the remainder of the season (11 games). Now, after just three games, who knows? That aside, and from what I saw (I didn't see the Buffalo game), it seemed like more of the same (from Sparano). Which, isn't surprising since he spent the last four years under Sparano, and was with him in Dallas as well. He's also reportedly close to Sparano IIRC. All that said, I'd much rather have a proven commodity then roll the dice on an assistant coach. I know Fisher doesn't necessarily inspire a great deal of confidence on this board, but I think he's competent enough that with the right personnel and scheme, he will get this once proud franchise back into the elite of the NFL.

Git 'r done Mr. Ross!

So what you're saying is he can't coach up to the competition. The Titans while having issues (read cheap) were nothing like the Raiders.

The only smart thing to come out of Buddy Ryan's mouth when he was in Philly was his 1st goal was to beat everyone in their division twice. Smart goal but he forget he needed an offense for his team. Look at Bellicheck. He wrecks the division every year, takes maybe 2 losses in division on a bad year. The other half of the schedule usually will have 50% quality teams and he walks on them.

(Bowles meets Ireland in his office for the interview, the two men shake hands)

Irleland: "Alllllrighty, let's get this over with."

    Bowles: "Excuse me?"

Ireland: "Uhhh nothing. So, Todd, it's Todd isn't it? *Looks over paper* Todd...Boles?"

Bowles: "Actually, Jeff, it's pronounced BOW--."

Ireland: BOLES. Got it, Thanks Ted.

    Bowles: Todd.

Ireland: Right. Moving on. What would you say makes you the best candidate to be the next Miami Dolphins HC, and don't say because you're already Head Coach BECAUSE THAT DOESN'T COUNT.

Bowles: Well Jeff, and again, Thanks for givingme this opportunity. I really appreciate it. I think one of the main things is th--

Ireland: *Sneeze Sound* ROONEY. Ah, man. Sorry about that. Wicked cold. You were saying?

Bowles: Right... Well, I feel like, given my history with this team, I can lead these men to---

Ireland: Sorry to cut you off, Tim, but I just thought of a REALLY funny story...Oh man.

Bowles: Would you...like to tell it?

Ireland: What? No. This is an interview, Terry. Would be TOTALLY inappropriate...

Bowles: Ok then. Well, I just feel like my--

    Ireland: BUT since you asked...

    Bowles: Oh God.

Ireland: Right before the draft a couple years ago, I was interviewing prospects. And this one hotshot diva receiver walks in. All HOTSHOT DIVA'Y, ya know?

Bowles: I assume you're referring to Dez Bryant. Yes, I remember that.

Ireland: Oh, so you heard this one?

    Bowles: Yes...it was...yes. I heard about it.

Ireland: Damn... (under breath) People need to keep their stupid whore mouths shut...

Bowles: Anyway, you asked me why I feel like I'm the best candidate to lead this team as Head Coach, so--

Ireland: I certainly don't remember that. But OK. Go ahead, Steve.

Bowles: Hey, that one was even clo--whatever. This team needs a leader as a Head Coach. A man they can trust. A man they can look to on the sidelines to make a tough decision. A man they know who's made the right decision to put them in the BEST possible situation to succeed. I am that man, and I plan on bringing a Super Bowl back to Miami.

Ireland: Wow. That's some pretty good stuff, Todd. I must say I'm very impressed.

    Bowles: Thank You, Jeff.

Ireland: One last question. It says here your mother was unemployed from 1972 - 1975. Care to explain this?

    Bowles: Jesus Christ.
