We need Roth to take some reps from JT to keep him fresh and doing what he does best...50+ snaps for JT is to many at this point in his career. Posted via Mobile Device
Problem with that is, those snaps then come off of Cam Wake's plate, this is what was spoken of when it was speculated that JT could be a progress stopper.
A player learns on the field, JT can help both Roth and Wake, but he cannot offer much advice if both are on the sidelines.
Wake will not suffer the difference Roth is a different kind of player like to see Roth @ ILB in the 3/4
Hate to say it but maybe it is time to reduce JT AND Joey's counts.Rotate JT and Joey on the weakside and Roth/Wake on the strongside with some mixing up of JT/Porter/Wake in very clear passing situations.
Pasqualoni has 4 LB/OLB players who have had success at the NFL level, the difference is each one brings a different skill set to the table, we have a total of 12 sacks, but 6 came against the Bills. DC P needs to step up his game.
have always had that in the back of my mind (Roth @ ILB) using a 3/4, only one ILB has to have the ability to drop into coverage or move side to side Roth could stuff the run (as well as he sets an edge) & pass rush from the center making that middle a miserable place to try to negotiate for an offense
Different skills sets really. Roth is a great run stuffer and a not so bad pass rusher with an upside, so I would see him used on 1st and 2nd downs or obvious running situations. Also a couple have mentioned ILB and I too find the thought intriguing. I agree, both especially JT are up there in years. I remember when we signed JT and the plan was to use him only on passing downs and keep his legs fresh for the entire year. When Roth is ready to play I still think that is our best option. PS. Love these boards btw.
