A football has two points and so does this issue. This years draft is very steep in talent so good players will drop down to the later rounds, but if that happens we can kiss a few high profile names goodbye.
I am always in favor of more picks but I guess it depends on how many picks we would get and how far down we would drop. From an excitement point of view I would be disappointed, but from a rebuilding point of view I think I'd be thrilled. We sure could use as many picks as possible.
If I were GM, I might consider this..............

This is a change of heart for me but I think I'd do it. The meat of the draft (3rd to 6th rounds) could really be star studded this year. I don't think we'd land Bryant this way but probably a few solid 'no namers'.
As many people on this board have suggested (myself included) we need more players than one draft could provide; if this gets us more players I say do it, or at least seriously consider it.adamprez2003 likes this. -
While I think this would be an excellent draft to trade down and acquire more picks, as a fan I loathe waiting until we are on the clock only to hear we've traded our pick. So today this sounds like a good plan, come April 22nd I'd hate it. :lol: This of course is only good if the right pick isn't available. :up:cobrajet likes this.

Move down get Jerry Hughes or Brandon Graham, and you have had a GREAT start to your draft.
Hopefully Claussen falls to #12 then the phone may be ringing off the hook, not to mention Jerry Jones calling if Bryant is available. That would be too low for a Hughes or Graham likely but the compensation would be very high. -
Unless that potential franchise QB is there (Claussen) Would Carrol move up 4 spots ahead of SF to grab him?
I mean if they leave the first round with a LT and a QB wouldnt they be happy? According to the "chart" thats a 3rd rounder we would pick up.

I think the issue is, would they do it in the 15 minutes they have to decide. History says it happens very rarely. Almost all the trade downs that occur are done pre-draft. So while it's obviously possible and a potential franchise QB makes it more so, I see it as a rare happenstance. There's probably just as much chance that Berry falls to us.cobrajet likes this.

Every year I am hoping for a tradedown and it hasnt happened yet .The 12th spot could do the trick.
There still will be some top notch players available to attract potential trade partners .We need LBs and the depth at the position is very good this year .There is not much separating the top guys from players who will be available in the 3rd round IMO. -
For me, if there is a trade down, I'd prefer a player out of the deal, for example trade the #76 to the Redskins for Chris Cooley and swap draft positions in the 2011 draft.
Or pick up a player that has been obsolesced, the Bengals will draft a Te this year, meaning Chase Coffman has no role and should be available on the cheap.
As for trading down and out of the #12, I don't care for it, this is a deep draft but why chance missing "your' guy to pick up a later pick?jetssuck likes this. -
Just a question, give me a short list of all the teams that are unwilling to trade down and acquire more picks.

Exactly, just because we're willing to trade down... doesn't mean someone else is willing to trade up.

I'm all for trading down and adding more in the first 2 or 3 rounds. As it stands now we have more picks in rounds 6/7 as we do in 1/4 which is NOT a good thing imho.

I really am supportive of trading down.
This draft is deep enough to get a quality player later in the first round. It may mean passing up on someone we would be or could be excited to get and sorry to miss, like Dez Bryant, Pierre-Paul, Earl Thomas or Dan Williams. But it would also mean adding additional top tier talent thru extra draft picks in the early rounds. It could also mean adding a starting caliber player and a swap of first round picks.
Either way we need several players in order to be where we want to be as a team and this would be a way of addressing that.
It may not happen and probably wouldn't but I think the 12th pick is a prime spot if the right players are still on the board but we will see. -
Not to change the thread but I wonder if there isn't a silent genius behind that Pat White draft. I wonder if they will use him as their red zone QB when he is fully developed.
Could you imagine what the defense would think when we come up to the line of scrimmage with a seasoned Pat White as QB in the wildcat and two RB's that can catch the ball? Now throw in a tackle eligible for good measure. How could you defend against that?
There may be some genius behind the Pat White thing yet.....I wonder.............. -

I just re-watched the Jeff Ireland Pre-Draft Press Conference. I have never seen anyone say so much, but say so little. I think I did break through the code enough to see that he is impressed with the NT's in this draft. Whether that means anything or not - who knows.
