Five days remain for fans to vote their favorite players into the Pro Bowl, and absent of a late flurry of votes, several Dolphins players may get shut out of the NFL’s all-star game.
Offensive tackle Jake Long remains the team’s best hope, but he has slipped a spot in fan voting for AFC offensive tackles, behind Cincinnati’s Andrew Whitworth and Baltimore’s Michael Oher.
Whitworth, a five-year veteran, has a commanding lead at the position with 362,996 votes (editor’s note: Andrew Whitworth? Really?) even though wasn’t even listed among the top five vote-getters when the NFL released its initial Pro Bowl results on Nov. 26. Oher is second with 215,448 and Long is third with 195,578. Long, who has dropped from second to third, will likely be selected to the game for the third straight year, though he currently wouldn’t be a starter.
But Cameron Wake, Dan Carpenter and Karlos Dansby all are in danger of missing the game despite turning in Pro Bowl-caliber seasons.
