Well, he's getting his shot now. We can all see what he brings on gameday now. The one thing holding back the flood of negative attention on Allen was that many people felt he hadn't been given a fair shot. This makes it a make or break season for Allen, IMO. If he fails, he is probably gone.
I think that J. Allen gets a bit of a bad rap. He has clearly underperformed his pick, but he's not a horrid CB. When he has started he's been decent against everybody not named Moss. That being said, I do believe that Smith has more talent, but if he really can't get out of his own head right now then giving him a chance to refocus outside of the spotlight might be what he needs.
Well, in the spring of 09, if anyone had said: "Next yr White and Turner will be waived, and Jason Allen promoted to Starting Cb" they would have been horse laughed off of the forum.. I do not mind JA the Cb in fact I'd bet that his stats for big plays given up are no worse than Davis or Smith as Cornerbacks.
Well, if you want a POSTIVE spin...this means our first round CB is starting in place of our second round CB...just sayin'. We better blitz like crazy and pray that they get to the QB in time.
At least I figure the coaches see the same thing I do...Sean Smith sucks. There really is no sugar coating it, though I have tried. He can't cover and he can't tackle. I hope JA steps it up.
Quickly turning into Wanny/Speilman part 2? Easy now... In all seriousness,I WISH I knew WTF they were planning on doing with this franchise. What direction? It does seem we took a step back since the 1st year they were here. Please tell me how wrong I am....
His footwork is horrible. I also don't think he shows much instinct for pattern recognition. But he is an elite athlete. IMO he shouldn't be a starter. I'm okay with him as a fill-in and I don't think he'll be much of a liability against Buffalo, but in the long-term I want Smith back as the starter.
Yes, we do. Hence the move to hide Sean Smith...way over on the end of the bench. He was a horrible liability.
I really can't recall so many stunning moves and or drama at the end of camp in any time in recent memory (cutting last year's 2nd and 3rd round picks - not that they didn't deserve it - for the drama; and the cuts of Martin, Grant, etc.). And now the Bills pick up Martin. And now we take Moses for his run stop abilities over Grant's pass rush abilities. Seriously? Are we that concerned about the 2nd/3rd team run defense? Or, is Moses that great on STs that he should get the spot? And now we are starting Jason Allen. Sean Smith, I have to say, has been too cocky and overconfident about himself and doesn't seem to show the urgency in the way he has conducted himself. I'd say he's been a bit delusional about his spot in the starting lineup and the fact that there were rumors about his lack of work ethic in the off-season is certainly being proven. He did not appear any stronger or more physical this year than last year. I won't pass judgment now but there is a lot of head scratching from some moves. At the very least - there is going to be some real pressure if they don't get it done on the field. It's put up or shut up time, bottom line. Tested by fire.
Jason Allen is a starting CB? I suddenly think we'll be fighting with the Bills for last. I don't know, maybe we're going to be the 2007/2008 Saints. Put up a bunch of points/offense and still lose and finish in 3rd/last place. I hope they change my mind, I try to trust the FO, but they did wast a 2nd rounder on Pat White and 3rd rounder on Turner. It's not like they are perfect.
You knew i'd chime in here didnt you . I'm on board with this move....for now. I feel more confident having Allen start right now over Smith. Smith better do SOMETHING or he will lose his job permanantly.
I believe I called this on The Mens Room w/ Chris Cullen J.Allen is the better choice right now. I can only hope SS24 sees this as a opportunity to show that he should start when he gets on the field wk1
Well, maybe not popular but: Keep in mind, we were a bad team in the preseason, we had 3 sacks, Smith was burned, DMart rarely played, and Turner was out played by 3 UDFA's. The backup Oline was bad, Special Teams is the only unit that managed to straighten itself out by the end of the preseason. So such moves as Smith being benched, Dmart being waived, the entire Oline crop from 09 released, and Grant and Douglas being waived, White being waived are all a byproduct of that horrible performance in the games as well as Training Camp. When Sparano said "no one has gotten there hands on more passes than Jason Allen" he sent the signal that his was coming, when Smith was benched for game #3, that was another signal.
How did he not appear any more physical this pre-season? He played the run and actually made a tackle.
I wouldn't be surprised if Smith sits at Buffalo. We typically don't dress five corners. And Smith doesn't play special teams IIRC. Carroll does.
No ****. I did not think Sparano would just willingly give games away. Man.....Please don't let this be true.
And if he can play, I think Sean Smith might be jettisoned. SS does not fit this regimes style of player. Hes not tough. He plays weak. He doesnt challenge anyone at the POA, he doesnt jam people, he doesn't tackle. There is really nothing that I see in him in any way that makes him a Parcells type player. I hope we promote Ness, and give him and Carroll as many reps in practice as we can so they can get up to speed so next year, we can try to move Smith...and get something out of him.
Wait a minute..someone called in and mentioned something was going to happen with Garner and Will Allen..now who was that..
the one thing i noticed about jason allen is he gets incrementally better every year. Its what surprised me this preseason. He looked a little better than last. I dont mind this move one bit and I think we'll be fine with Jason Allen. Gotta laugh people were actually predicting he would be cut lol
SS24 Free Safety move? That said, Jason Allen is not the worst CB I've ever seen. Let's not begin the wrist-slitting just yet.
Man, Sean Smith went from hero to zero in about 3 weeks. Jason Allen? Really? Finally given his chance? Good lord. How many chances is "fair" for Jason Allen?
I am cool with this. Smith has been horrid this PS. He does not play nickel or ST. JA has been an average DB, I can live with this.
