I read the other day that Ireland said he only has about 150 guys on his board. I found this quite surprising. Obviously they will scout a lot more players than that but I think the pre-draft visits may actually have some relevance this year, where they haven't in the past. Philbin wasn't involved in the draft process much last year, and with his influence on the kind of players the Dolphins will want, he will be looking to meet guys and determine their personality. Obviously there are some players that we are just doing out due diligence on in case they fall, or maybe as a smokescreen. This is a list of 45 players who it's been reported we have interviewed, worked out, or contacted during the pre-draft process. If anyone knows of anyone else then just let me know and I'll update. High Tier: Austin Patterson Lane Johnson Star Lotulelei Richardson Rhodes Milliner Those are the names Miami has in the high tier. In the second tier are a number of WRs including Allen, Hopkins, and Wilson. Giovani Bernard is another possibility as well. What's interesting to note is that there's very little mention of any CBs outside of Rhodes and Milliner at the top. Either they take a CB high or they take one for depth.

Not only were we at Travis Kelce's pro day today but Dan Campbell was present helping out with the drills. Kelce ran an unofficial 4.62 with a 37 inch vertical.
Interesting they are staying away from Dion Jordan, who if Jacksonville passes on him for Geno, could be the target for trade up at 6.
I don't think there is a lot of chance they will draft an edge rusher high, much less trade up. It's too early to replace Wake and too expensive for a Nickel-only guy.
Jmo Taz, but it's a lot easier than it looks..with today's gloves ( which is completely like cheating) and perfect spirals out of the jugs, it's really not that hard, relatively speaking..
Aldon Smith went 7th and was a nickel only as a rookie. I suppose it is possible that in our case, Jordan could be a nickel package DE as a rookie, then perhaps take over as a Sam backer in 2014. Or install him as the base RDE, and move Odrick inside to replace either Starks or Soliai.
What's your source? This link says his vert was only 35" with a 4.64 forty. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/uc/2013/04/04/kelce-runs-4-64-on-pro-day/
I was listening to Sirius NFL radio on the way home from work and they were interviewing Tourek Williams from FIU (DE)and he said he worked out for the Fins at the Dolphins Local Pro Day. Unfortunately I do not have a link as it was over the air.
Yes it is. I meant "only" as it compares to the link that phinsational found, which had him at a 37" vert.
There was a quote from Kelce this morning in the Cincinnati Enquirer in which he felt like his numbers weren't as good as he'd hoped; thinks he can do even better. Scary if true.
We have 2 reliable sources giving two different results. Which would you take to be the true one? 4.62 and 37", or 4.64 and 35"?
Actually I think it's 4.62/4.65 and 35" versus 4.64 and 37". The only discrepancy that matters is the vertical. Different stopwatches are going to have different times. The stopwatch Gil Brandt cited said 4.62 and 4.65 on his two runs. The stopwatch another source cited said 4.64 on his best run. I'm perfectly comfortable with that discrepancy. But there shouldn't be disagreement on his vertical or his broad jump. He had to be unhappy with his results. He's recovering from a sports hernia and wasn't in good shape. He got sick during the workout and had to stop.
There is a difference between developing a guy and limiting his snap count, and not having room for expansion. This team isn't going to have two 240-260 pound edge rushers in the base defense(unlike the 49ers), and I don't think it makes a lot of sense to spend a high pick on a guy who doesn't do what you want to fill the role ever
Jordan moves in space better than Misi, and as I suggested in the previous post, could just move into the starting Sam in 2014.
At that point you're subjecting him to more rigorous elements. Can he play like an actual linebacker, rather than a 3-4 OLB?
What does that even mean, an actual LB? You mean can he be used in coverage? Oregon used him in coverage sometimes, and he moves very well in space.
I think you build this defense around Jordan. His potential is so high that he could be a player that down the road, in future drafts every GM is looking for "the next Dion Jordan". IMO totally what you want for a top 10 pick.
"Traditional" should be the better word. There's a pretty big difference between a 3-4 OLB who is in coverage 10-15% of his snaps and doing basic things mostly off of athleticism and someone who can be trusted to be in coverage 85%+ of base defensive snaps, handle much more responsibility, play on an off-the-line of scrimmage positioning, be responsible for pursuit rather than edge-setting, etc.
