I gained some respect for the kid by the end of the season (kahonies) though his throwing skills in the last game really came to light as no where to be found. He is young and i believe he has talent still yet to bring out.
Gotta admit when he came on the field for a wildcat formation we never went for popcorn.

Huh? Excuse me for being out of the loop towards the end of the season but.....WTF? Has that ever happened before with a rookie QB who saw that many snaps? Or even a quarter of those snaps?

Ug! I realize how he was used, but this is still a head scratcher and an eye roller all in one.

how things could have been different if he'd hit that bomb in the very first game against the Falcons. A wide open Ted Ginn... Had Ginn been faster?... :pity: :shifty:

I really like this kid. I really do. I hope he bulks up and becomes our #2 QB. He has class and seems like a pretty down to earth kid. Everytime I hear Pat White's name, I remember the story someone posted on here about him at the New England game. About how Pat White trotted over to the men and women serving this country and shook each and every hand, something not a single Patriot or other Dolphin for that matter did.

    Much respect for this kid.

Interviewer: "Who would you want at your side in a bar fight?"

I know...that play burned in my head....I was like at that point the kid could do something mix him in here and there.....then they stopped doing that, and when they brought him in, he ran it every time.......I think he lost a little on his arm too, from not honestly using it as much.....the Pittsburgh game right before he got hurt, if anybody has Tivo or DVR check it out.....he threw a strong side out, which for any QB is the easiest to complete....had no pressure, and 3 hopped it....it looked awful..

yup! I was there and posted about it. HUGE kudos to White. I was opposed to the pick when it happened, but after seeing his actions in the pre-game here in New England nothing but good thoughts about him. Here is hoping we find a way to make him more valuable. Cannot teach guts and the good guy stuff.

Pat White was 0 for 5.

Ronnie Brown was 2 for 6.

Pat White did not do anything in the Wildcat, he simply handed off to the player that did.

Every minute spent on him was a minute wasted on our real offense.

Why not, very similar results, actually White generated more yards from the line of scrimmage then any of the above as a rookie.Point being, its a little early to bury the kid, considering he is just that,a kid.Johnny Unitas was cut by the Steelers,Bob Griese came in to the league throwing sidearm,Warren Moon had to go to Canada because nobody would let him play QB in the states,Bart Starr rode the pine for 3 years

    (besides Pat White)

How many starting QBs in the NFL are 6'0" or shorter?

    One.

How many are less than 200 lbs?

    None.

    How many aren't pure passers?

    One.

How many are run-first (one/two-read) QBs by nature?

    One.

And you'd have to say that ZERO or ONE out of THIRTY-TWO is NOT good odds of success.

And there's a reason for those numbers: QBs with any of those traits don't succeed very often.

QBs with ALL those traits are called Wide Receivers.

Wow, you really need to stop drinking that bad Kool-Aid. It has NOTHING to do with Pat White being a 'rookie", it has to do with the fact that he was not a really good college passer (forget his stats which are not great) and he cannot throw a NFL football at all. He will never be a NFL QB.

Let me guess, you are also a West Virgina fan right?

The 6'0" QB is Drew Brees; the one in the other categories is Vince Young.

He's a living breathing conundrum. Off the field it's hard to find anything not to like about him. Real classy Kid. On the field its really hard to find anything to like about him.

Anyway I didn't like the pick then and I still don't like it now. I will however spend my time rooting for him to be a success. That is unless we find someone willing to give us a pick back for him.

You never know.... Here's to fairy tale endings :knucks:

Sure why not? Someone brought up 0-5 as a harbinger of future failure. Tom Brady, KW and BF are such great QBs, but they also had rookie numbers that are bad.

It's because they are so good, that the comparison works. He never said Pat will be as good as those guys. Just don't use 0-5 as evidence he definitely won't be.

The guy was good in college, and excellent at the combine. He needs to find his way, and maybe he never does. That is also possible. But don't write him off because he missed 5 passes.

I hated the Pat White pick. I still do. But he's here, he's trying, give him a chance.

That was more or less my point, all of the above mentioned QB's were considered wash outs or worse early in their careers.Heck Bart Starr's last year before Lombardi arrived he had a 3-12 TD to INT ratio.
I have no idea if Pat White can succeed in this league, but there's the point, noone really does.3 passes thrown mainly from gimick schemes is absolutely no guage of the abilities of a rookie QB.
He looked good in college,he looked great at the combine,I dont know what he is,other then that he's on our team. But lets get a little more evidence before we start tamping down the dirt on the rookies grave with our collective shovels.

His college stats might seem good until you compare them to other college QBs. (Nothing is anything till it is compared to something)

For instance, he never threw for over 2,000 yards in a season. Except in one Bowl Game he never threw for over 230 yards in a game.

In his last year (2008) 26 QBs had a higher QB rating. 85 QBs threw for more yards. 31 QBs threw for more TDs. 66 QBs had a higher yards per pass attempt average (His longest pass was only 52 yards).

His completion percentage added to his YPA is not high compared to a lot of other college QBs. Of the 15 QBs with a higher completion percentage, all threw for a more yards(most, a LOT more) and only one had a lower YPA. In other words, in college, Pat White threw mostly short passes. And a lot of them were on roll out options.

And remember that this is the year his coaches tried to showcase his passing.

Compare him to someone like Tim Tebow. When you compare each players final three years, Tebow blows White away in every single category. Yet Pat White played against much much lesser teams every year.

And Pat White had running backs that are now in the NFL to count on.

Most people give three reasons that Pat White can be a NFL QB.

    1. His college stats.
    2. He won 4 Bowl games.
    3. He was the MVP of the Senior Bowl (4-10 passing)

Who is the NCAA career rushing leader for yards by a quarterback?
Who spent most of his career sharing snaps with Steve(kicking the *** out of the NFL)Slaton?

    Who cares?

What does that stat have to do with Pat White ever being a QB in the NFL?

It is like saying that Tim Tebow will make it as a NFL QB because he has more rushing TDs in his NCAA career then any other QB.

If Pat White had the skills of a Mike Vick he would not have won 4 Bowl games etc etc because he would have left for the NFL early.

The NFL is a PASSING GAME now, ask any former college running QB that is now playing another position in the NFL or is selling life insurance.

The question I have for Pat White as far as just being able to play in the Wildcat is can he run between the tackles in the NFL? And the answer is NO.

I do not think that Pat White has yet to break a tackle in the NFL. On his one big run he had almost prefect blocking. Any of our running backs could have scored with the blocking on that play.

He can't throw a NFL football against NFL defenses and he cannot run against NFL defenses. He has no future as a QB in the NFL.

I guess that is what you mean by run.

Take away his one 33 yard run and he averaged 2.4 yards per carry.

I'm not myself very impressed with that.

It comes down to do you think we can win with him running a High School/College offense in the NFL?

P.S. In preseason he was 6 for 16 passing (37.5%) for 31 yards which is 1.9 yards per pass attempt. But he did run 11 times for 38 yards! (3.5 YPC)

Why should I? I have no responsibility to make absolutely sure he has nothing to contribute before judging him, as I am not a coach or FO personnel for the Dolphins. I have judged him based on what he's shown and I think he was a waste of a second round pick. Time may prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

Yup, like Chad henne. Highest YPA was 7.65. Average of the other three less than 7. Close to 400 attempts first two years. highest completion percentage of 61.9. QBR also doesn't compare.

Sure he threw for less yards but then you compare that to Henne and you see his YPA was higher but threw less times. he can only do what his coaches asked him and when they asked him he performed better than Henne. Henne has looked better and is our QB, so don't get any ideas that I think pat is better. Just rebutting some of these arguments against Pat.
