The writer refers to Jake long a right tackle, but later discusses how Carey should thrive now that he is moving back to the right side. He also calls Smiley a left tackle. Other than that, the author is right. Low risk with the possibility of high reward and the experience factor is not something that I had considered.

Actually, one of my editors must of screwed that up.

I just had it fixed. Long is the left tackle and Smiley is the left guard. That's according to Jeff Ireland.

The McKinney signing was definitely a smart one especially provided he can stay healthy and return to that almost Pro Bowl-caliber performance he had earlier in his career.

Thanks for the link, good read. This was a nice signing by BP, no downside to it. But count me in the "fans who want the rookies to start" category. We won't win more than 5-6 games anyway next season, so I say start Murphy at RG next to Carey (I want Smiley at LG to help Jake in his rookie year) and let our VERY young team gel/learn/grow together next year while we can afford them to. That way they're ready to kick butt in 2009.

    Interesting point!

If Murphy earns it, then I have no beef with him starting over McKinney.

I thought it was a good signing.Low risk with high potential upside .There will be times when the rookies will be lost and look for direction .Its good to have a veteran to show them the right way.

Carey is low key in personality but can help guys on his side and Mc Kinney on his side.

He said he would be moved to help Long develop. I'll try to dig it up for you bro.

    EDIT: Here it is:

    Rotoworld.com

I'll try to find a more detailed one.

    The latest one:

I guess they might have changed their opinion.

there's actually another reference to Smiley playing left guard, spoken directly by GM Jeff Ireland:
    http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=Nfl&id=37

It's the first blurb on that page, but references a Sun Sentinal article that is no longer resolving.

    the plot thickens...

I like the signing. I was just concerned when I first saw the headline a few days ago that we had went out and got Seth McKinney back. I breathed a sigh of relief when I found out it was Steve. Anyone know if there's a relation there?
