Donahue is 6'6", 300 lbs and played at Bowling Green in the MAC. He's only 23 years old.

 

I don't know if Irish is gonna be able to carpet bomb the low tier guys for a solution to RT. At least he's trying, though. I guess there just isn't a solution out there right now, unless you want to mortgage the future a little by trading a D-linemen...and I'm fine with that.

Camp fodder, practice squad, or a favor to an Irish kid.

 

That's what I see. I know he's someone they had an eye on, but I wouldn't expect this kid to seriously compete in this camp. Maybe someone they can develop on the practice squad and use next year.

 

Good point, but we did have 6 extra roster slots under the 90 we could have had, Irish has said they know their 22 and now are looking for Oline depth and Defensive Back (!) depth.

 

He needs strength development but he has left tackle feet and he's a linemen first and foremost not one of these dancing athletic ballerinas they have at tackle nowadays.

 

No way he makes the roster but, practice squad is a definite maybe. I like Ireland, and expect he will find a gem or two in final cuts. Teams did not have the time to truly evaluate many players, and I believe Irish will take advantage of that.

 

You get looks at players and when the situation changes during the year ( injuries , drop off off in production ) you have personal experience with potential replacements to your roster or practice squads . Just being very prudent and you do find and develop players that way.

 

In all due respect, I do enjoy reading your posts BUT, is there any way you can cut down the size of your Heineken add? For me, it's very annoying. I used to drink it every so often. Now, no more.

 

i don't buy camp fodder ... our RT situation should not be considered 'solved' by any stretch with Colombo or Carey .....

 

Carey's knees have to be a concern, as Keith Sims mentioned. IF healthy, Carey is a top RT.

 

Perhaps not camp fodder, but I'd be surprised if a kid that lasted all of a few weeks with the Rams is much more than practice squad material, and only if he shows something in 2 weeks he didn't with St. Louis.

 

This is just Ireland turning over rocks, kicking a few tires, whatever analogy you prefer.

 

So you have seen him play.

He sounds a lot like Marc Colombo, who is the antithesis of athletic dancing ballerina.

BTW, Donahue's strength is one of this positives. He did 30 reps at 225. That's excellent.

Very little. Maybe a couple games of Bowling Green. When I think athletic dancing ballerina I think of Alex Barron, Ryan Harris, Kwame Harris, and guys of that ilk.

 

If his knees are bad enough to concern them, they why not just cut him and sign Davis or Waters?

No, because we have Colombo starting at RT, Vernon Carey looking like trash at a position he hasnt played in forever. A rookie center that doesnt look very good so far. a LG that was a big part of the problem on our line last year.

there were lots of positives in the carolina game and now jake is coming back, pouncey, carey and colombo didn´t look that bad, i mean think of it, it always gets worse, look at the bills oline against the broncos
