Given we didn't pay him a ton, I think this is a pretty good signing.

Great... but Still a huge hole at both safety spots on this roster IMO. What do I know though.. I'm just a fan

    I don't like this signing. He's a 2nd round bust.

I like it when the FO takes chances on talented people who haven't lived up to talent. Low risk, high reward.

Best case scenerio: he lives up to his potential and Miami has a good safety.
Worse case scenerio: They cut him.
Most likely positive scenerio: Miami gets a talented special teams player.

The Bengals repeatedly picked up late round busts or has-beens. Ours, in some cases. If Coyle is responsible than giving him projects of this nature make sense.

Not all FA signings are big time players. This seems like a decent signing for some secondary depth as well as some special teams play. As long as we didn't spend too much (I don't know the figures) I'm happy with this kind of signing.

Coyle has done an excellent job fixing up bust DB's. So I won't ignore these types of signings.

Well, it's kind of a risk if the player is signed to fill a HUGE void at safety.

Most likely scenario: Because Ireland is KMART shopping for crucial positions, safety will be remain a liability.

This strikes me as the Gibril Wilson type of player the Bengals signed. Not sure if he'd be a starter, but I think Johnson could be a situational player and a very good special teamer. But so is Tyrone Culver.

Its your opinion that its HUGE ... our head coach may see it different. Just saying =0 or we are looking at the draft to sure up our roster. No need for a knee jerk reaction from what I can see.

What safety would you have liked us to acquire?

He will compete with what we have, if he is better great and if not he's a solid special teamer and it means what we have isn't all that bad.

I would have liked them to not release Yeremiah Bell. Common sense to not weaken a position that is already a weakness by cutting the only strong player in the safety. For those of you who just see it as a sensible cap casualty, I don't think you have any idea what his loss, and the communication he brings to the defense will mean to this Dolphins D. It can't be replaced by bargain bin basement shopping. It once again demonstrates that Ireland not only doesn't recognize the importance of the QB position, he also doesn't recognize the importance of stopping the other team's QB.

I hope I'm wrong and Ireland has pulled a rabbit out of the hat here, but my guess is the secondary is going to struggle.

I'm sure he thought about this before releasing him, maybe Coyle saw something on tape, i think we needed to get these young guys we drafted some more reps, because lets be honest having YB wasn't gonna make or break us.

Nooooooooo. Ireland didn't even think about his team. Never does. He just puts names in a hat. Whoever he pulls, he cuts them from the team....then eats their children. How did you not hear about this?

Bell is not a long term solution and we are not a safety away from the Superbowl. I have no issues with releasing Bell even if in the short term it hurts the defense a little bit this year because long term it is beneficial.

I read alot of posts where vikings fans talked about how much he sucked and how he was a wasted pick. Just look at his stats and his amount of starts.

And I would love to hear why you think I'm always in denial mode.

lol. I guess that's what that poster was thinking. I'm one of the most optimistic person/fan around. But I heard what alot of Vikings fans had to say about this guy before we signed him. I was hoping we didn't sign him, now I hope the Vikings fans were wrong. But his stats and amount of starts speaks for itself. We can only hope he's teachable and we have the right coach to teach him.

We might not even be thinking of using him at safety, aside from a reserve, so who knows.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's getting paid relative peanuts to be one of our core ST players. Def wouldn't be mad at that.

I doubt they think he's their starter. If that was the case I think they'd of gone after him a lot sooner.

And Bell was in no way Jerry Rice reincarnated. We need to get younger and build thru the draft or get our young guys on the field to see what they are made of.

I don't see how this signing helps the Dolphins at all. Johnson wasn't a starter for a below average Vikings defense last season and it certainly isn't an upgrade over Bell, whom the Dolphins cut. I certainly don't see him as anything but a possible special teams player and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he is cut in training camp. Hopefully they signed him for very little money because he isn't worth much.

Well, at the very least he is a camp body, he does have physical talent and perhaps is looking for the right system fit.
