### The Dolphins had conversations with the agent for free agent tight end Jermichael Finley and said they could have interest if he’s cleared to resume his career after neck surgery. But other teams have been more pro-active. Joe Philbin was offensive coordinator during part of Finley's tenure with the Packers. Incidentally, Dustin Keller also remains unsigned.

I'd love to see the Fins take a chance and sign one of the pass-catching veteran TE available. Finley is one of the guys I'm intrigued with.

Like we saw for a bit prior to the Keller injury, having another TE option allowed for some 2-TE sets; while also providing Clay some opportunities to line up in the backfield/on the wing.

I'm curious to see how Lasor tries to utilize Egnew, if it all. Perhaps it's a long-shot, but I'm holding out hope that it "clicks" for him this upcoming season, and that we see a Clay-like breakout performance as a result, albeit in a varying capacity.

 

Didn't realize he was 6'5". Nice.

 

If healthy, I'd love o bring Finley in. He + Clay could be a dynamic duo.

 

Talk all they want but they better do their homework on that neck. Hell of an injury and I would be very surprised if he or Keller were ready this year.

 

I'd rather wait and see how the draft shakes out, if we don't get a young TE in the draft, why not sign a guy like this, but I'd rather get a young prospect.

 

One year deal, is a win-win. Don't wait for the draft just sign him. If he works out, great. If not cut him. This guy is still young and very talented. Injuries have a great way of humbling people but also teach them how to work harder. We could strike gold with him.

 

I think they're looking for a traditional tight end to pair with Clay. Finley isn't the best in-line blocker, but he isn't as horrendous as some and he does a surprisingly high amount of his work from traditional positions.

I'm a bit worried about them de-emphasizing Clay. The guy should be getting a heavy workload, even if he isn't lined up next to the tackle.

 

They would have to be stupid to reduce this players workload, he's coming strong and very determined to get better, he showed great consistency which was his weakness before, he's an unquestioned ascending jack knife of a player.

Troy Nicklas would be a nice fit if that's what they want.

 

I agree. Split him out, put him next to RT in the shotgun or at TE in passing situations, whatever the matchups dictate. But I'd much rather have a traditional TE as the full time guy. That could actually make it easier to move Clay around and give him the workload you're talking about.

Clay has his uses as a blocker, it's just not really in-line run blocking. He's not a bad pass protector, and he's not a bad lead blocker.

 

Certainly need someone and Finley would fit well. Need to draft one eventually, but also need help now as well.

 

The injury scares me. Neck is more of a concern than any below the waist injury these days.

 

I don't expect having Finley would lessen Clay's snaps so much. It would lessen the 3rd WR's snaps. We'd line up much more often with 2 TE and 2 WR.

 

I'd say necks have always been more of a concern.
