Worth a shot, depending on how big the contract is. We need some veteran depth, especially with Howard's injury.

 

Scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as character. But that's the reason we're able to get him this late in the game.

No doubt he has the talent to play in the league and start on some teams, will improve our depth if he can keep his mouth shut and stay out of trouble.

Good news. I don't know the player but if he's talented, we need all the help we can get right now.

 

Hard hitting physical CB...glory days in SF. Tore up his knee pretty good after becoming irrelevant in WAS (like so many guys do)

But you are 100% right, we need any type of talent at that position we can get.

Sporting news had him ranked the 7th best CB in the league in 2014. If he is going to return to complete health, we may have just acquired the steal of the year in free agency.

 

that was the last year of that dominant 49ers D if i remember correctly, he was pretty good that year and got that big payday from the redskins, then he tore his ACL and MCL in November last year, also has character concerns, i hope he practices today that would remove the medical red flag right away

 

I like our DC and have confidence he can get something out of Culver, unless of course injuries rule

 

This seems more like a move for next year, with the idea of him being on the PUP 1st half of season, he won't even be able to practice with team until then.

I thinks this speaks volumes on Lippett's development.

 

That just means that he isn't ready or able to practice today. They could remove him tomorrow, or at any point before the season, and he'd be able to play. I'm sure that they planned that when the signed him.

 

As long as he's healthy at the start of the season, it is fine with me. The benefit of signing a vet is that he doesn't need to do the "learning" of a younger player. His health is the only real issue. If we can get 6 games out of his leg, that should give Howard the time to acclimate himself with the league that we need.

If that is so, and he'll miss at least the first six weeks, then I'll be very interested in how his contract is structured. It was said to have a lot of incentives, but I wonder if the team can just cut him if he's not healthy and not be out anything then.

FWIW, Culliver says he'll be back sooner rather than later. However, the tone of the comments made it seem like he might just be saying that because he wants it to be true.
