not sure why we pulled the trigger so soon before the draft- was Carolina and/or Denver and other suitors totally out??

Excellent move by Miami- we got our two future 1st rounders and still probably in place for the remaining top receiver in this draft...but we're also in a great position to grab Parsons or someone that slides.
Very happy with this early move, it's essentially the Tunsil trade all over again! Now we also have our 2nd favorite team to root against as well, LOL.FphinFantastic and tirty8 like this. -

This is too far down for my liking.
Are the scouts not pounding the table on any prospects in the top 10 ? If not why... are they not confident in their ability to assess talent ?
Are they just telling Grier ‘any of those 3 receivers or Pitts are going to be good picks’. Those players are going to have very different levels of success. And it’s the scouts/player evaluators job to identify who is the best and pound the table. ‘This one is going to be the hall of famer!’. -

Holy guacamole! I think SF mooooooore than paid for the inconvenience of moving down farther than we would like to have gone down. Grier just more than I reasonably thought that any team would be willing to give up. Talk about maximizing value.KeyFin likes this. -
Bleh - So much for getting a top end playmaker. It's a draft haul in the future but it doesn't help us this year. No Sewell. No Pitts. No love.

My guess is that it ends up being Waddle or Parsons.Dol-Fan Dupree likes this. -

From PFT:
On a wild day of trading in the NFL, the Dolphins have now made two big moves.
Shortly after pulling off a blockbuster trade with the 49ers to send the third overall pick to San Francisco, the Eagles have traaded the 49ers’ 2021 first-round pick, No. 12 overall, to the Eagles.
Philadelphia will ship the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft to Miami for No. 12 overall and a 2022 first-round pick. (The Eagles will also ship the 156th overall pick to Miami and get the 123rd overall pick in the deal.) It’s unclear which 2022 first-round pick the Dolphins have sent to the Eagles.
By moving down from No. 6 to No. 12, the Eagles have likely taken themselves out of the quarterback derby, a sign that they’re all-in on Jalen Hurts as their starting quarterback this year.
By moving back up to No. 6, the Dolphins have signaled that they might take a quarterback after all, which would be a bad sign for their faith in Tua Tagovailoa. It’s also possible, however, that the Dolphins won’t take a quarterback and just think they can add an elite player at No. 6 who won’t be there at No. 12.
Today is one of the biggest days the NFL has ever seen for draft pick trades.Tin Indian likes this. -
Oh wait we just moved to 6!!!!

Now at least 3 qb’s go in top 6. Maybe even a 4th, who knows. So who do we get now....
-
Enough of this trash. Do everything we can to win right now ! When is our time?
2023 pick smh. Noah I. was a 1st round pick too. -
Trade: #Eagles have traded picks No. 6 and No. 156 overall to the Dolphins in exchange for No. 12 overall, No. 123 overall, and a 2022 first-round pick.

So overall, we move from # 3 to #6 and gain an extra 1st rounder (2023) and 3rd rounder (2021). That's fair value...not the steal it appeared 10 minutes ago.
However, it does signal that we're more focused on a top 5 player- Parsons, Smith, Pitts, etc. I think it's safe to say that we're not thinking about drafting a QB.
Also, we just worked it to where we could have had Watson for #3 only (the 3 1sts that came from the move) and keep Tua...and we traded out of that position 10 minutes later. So I think this puts that strategy to rest as well.brandon27, M1NDCRlME, FphinFantastic and 1 other person like this. -
It’s very evident 4 QB’s are going top 5. And very likely Sewell will be other top 5 pick.
So the Dolphins do still basically have control of who they get. They can still get ‘THEIR’ guy. Which is what I wanted!
We couldn’t do that at #12.
Hence my ‘too far back take’.
This changes everything I said before and I’m great with this actually.M1NDCRlME and FphinFantastic like this. -

May I update the title to Dolphins trade back to 6th?KeyFin and FphinFantastic like this. -

So looks like we gave up our own 2022 1st!
Like this trade even more now. So much motivation to win this year. And brass confidently betting we will be better than SF next year.
Also gets us back in front of Detroit and in a position to get the best pass catcher in the draft.KeyFin likes this. -

Absolutely nailed it given our position of not wanting a QB. The only thing that puzzles me is Carolina. They desperately need a QB and I'm shocked they didn't offer their pick and two firsts like san fransisco did. Maybe Carolina only wants one guy and wants the Jets pick to guarantee it? Would have preferred the two first rounders and a pick at #8 but I think we got the very next best possible situation.
-
So in conclusion...
Miami now has the #6 overall pick in the 2021 draft.
They traded away their own #1 pick in 2022.
They received the 49ers first round pick in 2022 and 2023 and a third round pick in 2023. -
