Dolphins vs. Patriots, 1994... starts in a couple minutes on NFLN (8PM EST). I think this is the shootout game between Marino and Bledsoe.
This was Dan's first game back after blowing out his Achilles. It was also Shula vs. Parcells. It's all coming back to me now.
Enjoying a 6 of sharks and getting ready to enjoy watching my man Dan....I wish I couldve truely appreciated what I was witnessing when he was in his prime. The best passer ever no arguement.
Was at this game.My 1st in Miami. What a great F'n game it was too.besides the outcome, all i remember was how fricken humid and hot it was that day.It was raining all day and stopped before the game started. It was brutal...
I agree. I feel like I took him for granted (at the time). I look back now in awe. The guy was just fricking amazing. And, this may have been one of his best games. Statistically anyway.
I was so young during these years, the one thing that always stood out to me about Terry Kirby was that TD run in the snow vs the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. After scoring Kirby made a snow angel in the endzone. I remember I was in New Jersey for thanksgiving visiting family. On a side note, I noticed how penalties on the defense were barely called. Already in the game I saw what would of been called a late hit nowadays, and the face mask on the Dolphins defense was a 5 yard penatly which wasn't an automatic first down. Nowadays, that would of been a 15yd easy. Not to mention all the BS calls on the QB. Im not going to get into that, don't wanna ruin this flash from the past game. Those were the days huh? With Dan the Man launching the football. I wish I wasn't so young back then...
I forgot to mention, they showed the stats for the Dolphins for the 4 years previous to this game, and the Phins were 1st and 2nd in the pass each year but 25th and 26 in the run. Imagine Marino with Ricky and Ronnie? LOL would make the Saints of today look like the Browns of today.
You're right, my fault. I guess I just caught up in watching this game and saw Terry Kirby. It was Keith Byars now that I think about it.
You know...I don't think I ever saw this game. Just the highlights. How cool is this, to finally be able to watch the whole game all these years later? I'm happy...
Gene Atkins was a serious screw up off the field, probably the worst until Rae Carruth had his girlfriend killed.
BTW, a note about Parcell's Patsies team, Slade was a second year player, McGinest was a rookie. Food for thought as the Dolphins go forwards
IIRC, I heard or read somewhere (long time ago) that Dan audibled on that 4th and 5 to the go route to Fryar (for what ended up being the game winning TD). Anyone know whether or not that's true?
amazing. i was 7 when this game happened......dan marino is incredible. i wish i could see that live now in my current dolphins fan-hood state
This was an awesome game,I didnt even know it was on,I went out to eat and they had this on. It was really cool to see this game.
What really made this game legendary in Dolphin (and Marino) lore was that after the achillies injury the previous year, he came back and had an awful pre-season, leading to a lot of whispers and speculation before the start of the season that he very well may be through. Took one game to shut that up.
Yes that's true. I was at the game with my dad. Best game EVER!!! Don Shula told Marino to throw it over the middle of the field to Keith Jackson to keep the drive alive. Marino saw Fryar was in single bump-and-run coverage, called the audible, and the rest is history. EDIT: I remember Irving Fryar saying that the audible was just a look Marino gave him that they had agreed upon.

Danny and Fryar 4 for 200 and 3 TD's just another day at the office! Good lord will we ever see the likes of that again? I kept thinking as I watched that game We'll not see the likes of that man ever again and then I just sat back and enjoyed!
The only interception Marino had that day was when Keith Byars our FB kicked the ball in the air at the patriot's goal line. Should have been 6 TD passes for Dan Marino that day if Byars just let it hit the ground.
I recorded this game. One of my favorite Marino/Dolphins memories. I was almost 15 when I first watched the game live. It took me a while just to realize how quick Dan's release really was. It's amazing to watch now almost ten years after his retirement.
funny thing is Dolphin fans use to ***** about the QB play even back then we were spoiled in the Marino days
