Good points. Rex Ryan's reactions were juvenile and unprofessional. What was Bill Bellichick's response to Crowder's talk about being the team to beat? He may be a cheater and pout when he loses but one thing you have to acknowledge is that he does know how head coaches are supposed to conduct themselves in situations like this. As does Tony Sparano who also didn't get into it.

Why wouldn't they be proud of him. "Most" Jets fans have the same childish mentality. :up:

 

The guy was just having a good time ,why hate him for that,People need to get a sense of humor.

 

It was unprofessional. He's the head coach of an NFL team, not the waterboy. Leave the jabbing to the players.

 

Ryan is just proving the acorn didn't fall far from the tree. His daddy is a fool, was a great DC and a horrific HC, as will Rex be, just like his daddy.

On the surface your opinion of this tuft between Ryan and Crowder is dead on, but I think, in this case, you have to consider the personality of Ryan as a factor as to it's validity or non-validity. Beyond the shadow of a doubt, Crowder reacted to Ryan as you'd expect Ryan to react to Crowder mouthing off. And the "OTA Super Bowl" reference was classic. But Ryan [and family] have a history of being outspoken and flamboyant to a fault. In fact, it was that same flamboyancy that ultimately led to the down fall of Buddy Ryan's career as a HC (i.e. it made him 'unhire-able' as a HC). Rex is following in Daddy's shoes although Buddy waited until after he was a success as a HC first....at any rate, this is this guys nature and he must feel it works for him. It reminds me of Jimmy Johnson in a way. JJ was, in person and to his teams, an arrogant ***. He was always trashing opponents. But he nearly always did it within the framework of his teams (inside the locker room and on the training fields)...Years ago I used to workout at the U after work and ran into JJ while we were both jogging. He was particularly fired up about playing Arkansas the following week. I jokingly (as a fan would do) said " How do you think we'll do agains Arkansas next week, coach ?" And he replied in an agitated way "We're gonna tear off their heads and stomp their azzes, mark my words !!" Well, they did...UM beat Arkansas I think 55-0 and Arkansas was supposed to be a pretty good team that year... The bottom line is that JJ was talking to a fan, one on one not to a media outlet or into a mic. That seems to be the way Rex wants to deal and it may just end up biting him the azz before it's all over. This was a minor tet-a-tet but won't be forgotten come October...Who it helps...we don't know yet...but it's certainly unusual for a coach to mince words with another teams' player, even BB steers away from that kind of talk...

I understand your point Greg, but to my knowledge Parcells has never questioned the toughness of a player not on his team. I can understand a coach calling out one of own players, it happens all the time, but calling out a flambouant player, especially from an arch-rival much less conference opponent just ISN'T something a head coach should be doing IMHO

 

Agree. Really what and who won what will be descided on the field in most people's minds, but, I don't think twice about Porter, or Crowder, or any other outspoken player saying what they said. For a coach to be talking swaggering, lip smacking junk is pretty silly. It's juvenile. Really, Crowder won when Ryan even addressed him at all. I sort of expect Crowder to be juvenile. It's sort of his M.O. You sort of expect more from an HC.

And yes..I don't think I remember Parcells calling out a player on another team in specific.
