Also Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins worked out four players: offensive tackles Allen Barbre and Xavier Fulton and wide receivers Montez Billings and Patrick Carter.
Those positions could be indications of the severity of the injuries faced by starting right tackle Vernon Carey (knee) and wide receiver Brian Hartline (finger). Both players left Sunday’s loss to the Browns late in the first half and did not return.
Barbre is a former 2007 fourth-round pick of the Packers out of Missouri Southern State. He appeared in 25 games for the Packers from 2007-09, making seven starts in 2009. The 6-4,300-pounder was mostly recently with the Seahawks, who released him on Nov. 24.
Fulton is a former Illinois teammate of Dolphins CB Vontae Davis. Fulton was drafted in the fifth round by the Bucs in 2009 but suffered a torn ACL in his final preseason game and was released. Fulton has spent time with the Colts and 49ers but has yet to appear in an NFL game.
Billings is a former Auburn speedster who as a high school sprinter won the Alabama state 200 meters. He has spent time on the practice squads of the Saints and Bills, the latter of whom just happen to play the Dolphins two Sundays hence.
Carter (6-3, 215) went undrafted out of Louisville in 2008 and has spent time on the practice squads of the Ravens, Bucs, Seahawks and Broncos. Mostly recently, he played in the UFL for the Hartford Colonials, for whom Tony Sparano Jr. was an assistant coach.
