    Dimitri Tsoumpas

Ireland leaving no stones unturned, and as always we are looking to add depth to the OL. Our offensive line is our strength, and the front office is always looking to solidify the unit.

Not sure about the player, but from what I gather, he was very impressive in the CFL.

Could he be the next Cam Wake???

EDIT: Stampeders site isn't loading for me, but you can see the cached version from Google:

But is he a run-blocking guy?

The running game is still our forte. Would he really fit the scheme if he's only good for pass-protection?

Either way, I'll be hoping or the best if/when this kid steps on the field for the Dolphins.

Well the Stampeders did lead the CFL in rushing yds, so I would assume he can run block. But the CFL is a passing league, so that doesn't say much necessarily.

I don't think we'll be going after guys that don't fit the mold of our OL.

    looks like another find
    http://www.stampeders.com/team/player_roster/career/?id=31
"...instead of getting fatigued and tailing off at the end of the gruelling 18-game pro season, Tsoumpas actually got stronger in the second half. He was a pillar in the Stamps offensive line that was among the league leaders in average rushing yards per game (134.6), average rushing yards per carry (6.4) and fewest sacks allowed (30) and helped to pave the way for the CFL’s leading rusher Joffrey Reynolds (1,310 yards)..."
    shades of Cameron Wake

the trenches just keep getting stronger  what a FrontOffice!

w/ picking up Lyndon Murtha (6'7"315lbs) & now Dimitri Tsoumpas (6'5"315lbs)
adding a Tackle & Guard, the Pod continues to get bigger, stronger & younger
it all begins in the trenches & ours is already one if the best & improving

    GoFish!:dolphin:
these are the kind of moves that go relatively unnoticed until they explode unto the scene

what it does is makes an injury plagued G in Smiley expendable .... which is a good thing. we are developing a good crop of young talented OL .......

i still believe that Gardner will take over for Carey .... which could give us a trading chip on draft day. but only time will tell whether that will be '10 or '11.

I've always felt Carey was a better guard than tackle(not that he isn't a "solid" tackle), maybe it would be better to shift Carey inside to guard, and have him back-up one of the tackle spots.

I do agree however, that Smiley is in Miami on borrowed time, I don't look for him to be with the Dolphins next year.

    i don't see Carey moving inside to G for 2 reasons ...

    - he has more 'value' as a T, and someone would want him

    - he is not very athletic, so i don't see him pulling, etc like this FO likes to see from its Gs

i don't dislike Carey ... its more of selling high type deals ..... a creating more CAP space to sign an area of need, OLB, WE, ILB which i do think we will do this coming offseason.

no, Murtha is on IR .... he should be good to go next season ...

wouldnt mind seeing Carey at OG as long as we have someone that can play RT at an equal or higher level then he is right now.

I think Smiley sticks around as a backup.

    Carey is a keeper,
    not even a consideration
    the BookEnds stay
    Murtha can compete
    4 the RT position

    ultimately, we want
the Orca-5 to be the Orca-8
    need eight starting caliber linesmen:
    tackle, guard & center x's 2
    & that's our direction

So I have a question would they be able to sign this guy like within the next few days or do they have to wait until the seasons over? Not sure how that works, with him coming from Canada.

Pat Kirwan was going over this a week or so ago. He said you will see some teams (out of the playoffs) with injured players that have just been "hanging in there". The team will tell them to go ahead and shut it down for the year and place them on injured reserve. Then they will fill the roster spot with someone from the practice squad or the street.

I believe Kirwan said that it took TWO GAMES. A two game contract gives a team the first rights to a player the following year. So you will see alot of moves this week that don't actually make the most sense for this year. The "play" is for rights to the player.

That's a nice piece of news. When you look at the number of players that went on IR this week, it makes sense. I can't keep up with all of the signings of course, but it'd be interesting to see what teams are looking at for next year with the late year signings.

I think this is a wakeup call to Vernon Carey. Ive read a few sources suggesting the team wants Carey to improve his play.

we had some discussion on this during the offseason, and when it was suggested that Carey might be on his way out .... it was not well received.

i do believe that if one of the understudies, namely Gardner, can step up his game for next year - Vernon's days in MIA are done ... and he will be traded for a 2/3d rd draft pick. i just don't see him in this offense as a G.

I agree Carey is a keeper. I think as fans we tend to hone in on some of the mistakes a player makes and we tend to blow them out of proportion. In 983 Snaps he's only given up 4 sack's and 12 pressures. He remains one of the top tackles in the game. Guy's like him are not easy to replace.

PS. While I think he stay's it doesn't mean the dolphins wouldn't trade him. One of the strengths and things I love about this FO is they will entertain offers for any of their players and will deal them if the price is right.

again, that's why we might actually be able to get a premium draft pick for him .... maybe even a 1st rd .... to help pick up a LB ..... of course, before this can happen - one of the youngsters has got to show they are ready .... remember we did not put Gardner on the PS for a reason ..... same can be said for Turner .....

if we sign this guy - i doubt it will be before the end of the season .... but if they like him - they will give him a 'commitment' so he doesn't go elsewhere in the meantime. then again, maybe they are considering putting Grove on IR .... which would open up an immediate spot (just thinking out load here) if the guy can come in and play.

There's a sense of trading players for the hell of it on this forum I've noticed as if they're always replaceable. Let's just stick with Carey and protect our young quarterback instead of eating his signing bonus.

If this guy is going to make the jump the NFL now is the best time for him to do so, he's gotten experience in the CFL, which means he more than likely is a good passblocker already "And" he is young enough to learn how things are done in the NFL as compared to the CFL.

In all honesty, there are now fewer ways for a oddball player to make the NFL, just the CFL and UFL and semi pro ball, so I am glad Ireland hasn't been knapping..

But he did miss out Stefan Logan...

i wouldn't think we'd sign him until the season is done .... the only way we do that is if Smiley goes IR for the last game, even so, from what was written above, signing him this week won't protect him for next year -- unless maybe we sign him to a contract through next year.

Murtha is on IR .... but it wasn't very clear what his injury was

As Zod said in a thread a week ago, a two-week signing pretty much would give us the rights to keep him around negotiation time next year. Since we didn't sign him, I'd take that as a sign that they were not too impressed and didn't feel it necessary to lock him up.

Seems to me that maybe what this Trifecta is trying to do is get as many starting caliber offensive linemen as they can, no matter whether there's enough spots for them or not. This isn't just to get insurance against injuries; this is so they can actually rotate them and have fresh legs on the line on every play.
