I'm not sure if it'll get much play, but Belichick has a habit of responding to these kind of things and Shula is pretty unassailable in terms of accomplishment, even by another HOF coach.

@85, he is entitled to poke fun and make light of these things. I would expect Belichick to let it pass or accept it as a joke (hell his real name has "Belly Chick" in it, cheat is an upgrade).:knucks:

Preparing for crap storm and Shula targeted slander from the NE media and four-lettered network.

That's the kind of thing you say when the offseason begins for every team. It will just fire up Brady and Belichick more this weekend in the same way it fired them up on the 18-1 season.

When you get to a certain age you dont worry about the consequences of what you say .He is speaking his mind .His legacy is assured no matter what he does.

He was caught cheating and punished, albeit not nearly enough. He's earned the nickname. Regardless of how much he wins or what he does, it not arguable that he was caught cheating and that the cheating affected the outcome of games. His integrity is and will always be questionable because of this. Sorry but it is what it is.
Shula's integrity, however, is not questionable. His resume is not either, he is still the benchmark for how to run a team and win with class. -

i think its great and its awesome with someone of the stature of don shula. the patriots news network in bristol connecticut can shrug off when a player says it or just the fans but when someone like don shula says it, you have to take notice and its much harder to get just sweep away.

I don't feel any qualms about Shula saying something about another coach...he's earned that right. And the fact that he's 85 yrs old, he's likely to speak more candidly and express how he really feels without concern of who's toes he's stepping on.
Again, due to his pedigree, I don't think anyone can argue Shula's point...
If pasties fans are upset about it, cest la vie... Fact is BB hasn't won the big one since that episode (thank you Tom Coughlin)... That speaks volumes to the question of whether or not the taping aided them.
That all said, BB has done some things that surely ranks him in the top tier of NFL coaches, regardless of that blemish. Just not above Shues...
EDIT: I might add that Shues accomplished his feat without the luxury of having the same HOF QB through out his tenure...Not that he didn't have good players, he did, but BB has had Brady his entire tenure...look at Cleveland to see what he did without a HOF QB... -
F*** yea Don, just f*** yea.

I didn't think it was possible for me to love Don Shula anymore than I already did. I was wrong.

I saw that clip and they said in that sequence that a player was late for camp and he sneaked into camp over a fence and Shula was there waiting for the player and cut the guy right on the spot .
we need to tell Espn to go piss on themselves if they bash Shula .MikeHoncho likes this. -

Right when you think Shula couldn't be any more popular... he goes and says this.
Nothing wrong with calling them the way you see them. Hall of famer or not. -

I love the comments on that site. Some very angry Pats fans. Cant wait for that bandwagon franchise to disappear into the "who the **** cares" category again. So many of their fans forget or don't know that they were a doormat for years. Bellichick will likely retire with Brady, as chances are he returns to the Cleveland form of coaching.

Nothing really new or controversial here; the guy was proven guilty by overwhelming evidence and it was well known fact around the league that he was doing it whenever he could.
Everyone knows he has no integrity.
Without a doubt he should be banned from the HOF and his name blotted out everywhere and he definitely should have received a lifetime ban from coaching in the NFL...but that would have been justice and set a good example, and we don't do that in America anymore. Fame=license. -

Let's not forget the video evidence that was conveniently destroyed. I'd love to be able to see what was on that. And in light of the shadiness surrounding the Ray Rice video, we all know Goodell likes to get greasy with video tapes that could damage NFL image.
I'm convinced Belicheat is still cheating. Statistically it is nearly impossibly to maintain the type of home record they have over the past decade. When you hear the rumblings about audio interference, players suspecting they know defensive calls, etc. etc. you begin to get the picture the Patriots are still a very greasy franchise. Then when you look at how bad that team's play usually falls off come playoff time or in superbowls, makes you wonder if they've lost that edge with the increased scrutiny. -
To me it doesn't matter if other teams cheat or not, they were caught! But as for Goodell and the league, all pro sports leagues are rigged to a degree. It's all about the $$$.

Oh come on, Goodell has his faults but he could have covered up the Patriots' spygate if he wanted to and he's bestfriends with Kraft yet he still gave them the hammer. The punishment will always be questioned but the fact that millions of fans around the world associate asterisk with Belichick is damage that Goodell delivered to the Patriots.
So who cares what that tape had, the damage is there and will always be there and you can thank Goodell for that. -

But the tapes were destroyed and the Patriots continue their greasiness to some degree. But sure, thank you Goodell for handing out that tiny punishment that didn't even phase a franchise that was caught cheating.
I just hope I live long enough to see the entire truth come out, and the Patriots caught cheating again.danmarino likes this. -
