We lost a game we should have won, but then again, if we should have won it, we would have won it.
I ended up being happy this evening, shocking I know, but big picture it my fellow PhinFans.
1. Our Oline played like it should have in week 1
Yep, we can stop handwringing over Big Jake
2. Chad Pennington can still play Qb in the NFL
3. Ronnie and Ricky were fed the rock and produced.
4. Special Teams is no longer a weakness
5. Sean Smith can play Cb in the NFL
Lipstick on a pig?
Nah, Ted Ginn is learning...

Special teams plays one good game and is no longer a weakness? I give them credit, but I sure as hell wouldn't call them "not a weakness."

Some building blocks are there and most of the crappiness from week 1 has been dealt with, save for the Defense, which in my opinion has some clunkers out on the field to early and too often.
After tonight, I'm not worried about the Chargers, I think we snag our first win there. -

O line improved, Ginn improved, Ronnie and Ricky showed they still have it.
And the defense sucked more then all the positives combined.Fin D likes this. -

Aside from the obvious rushing attack and the OL playing to their salary, I was very, very pleased with the play of young Mr. Sean Smith. He completely shut down Reggie Wayne from the view I had at my seats. He was in perfect position pretty much every time he was on him. Completely. Yeah, he probably missed out on a couple of INT opportunities by not turning around while the ball was in the air, but he did not let up at all up against one of the best receivers in the league for the majority of the game.
It was nice to see the cover team play such a complete game as well. Definitely a lot more positives this week than last. We've got to keep with the good and learn from the bad. Season isn't over yet, we've got a tough one next week up at San Diego followed by three straight at home. We've got to find a way to go 3-1 down this stretch, though. :sad:padre31 likes this. -

Yeah, Bumrush. I'm giving it another week. This upcoming game @SD is do or die. 0-3 isn't doable, IMO. 1-2 with no division losses and three home games upcoming is.
If not, it's time to break Henne in and give him his first three career starts at home. -
Take away the wildcat tonight and Penny is exposed once again -
-
QB- I like Chad, but he is limited. We couldn't really do much of anything but dink and dunk. He sails passes on deep throws the majority of the time. And it doesn't say much that on 3rd and 6 with 4 min left in the game that we're running the ball for the chance to kick a FG as oppose to passing it.
RB- No complaints
WR- We have a bunch of slot WR and no true starter. Ginn will never be more than a good #2.
TE- Besides AF, we suck...
OL- Good game tonight vs. an undersized defense in the Miami heat. Let me see tonight's performance vs. NYJ, BUF, and NE before we decide how good or bad they're.
DL- Terrible... Ferg is getting old and our DL isn't exactly steller anywhere else.
LB- Terrible. Crowder is who I said he was... He's a ****ing bum. Every criticism about this guy has been right on. He's not capable of greatness in any capacity. All the "but he stops the run" BS is nonsense too. Taylor and Porter do a decent job on the outside, but inside we're awful.
CB- How I miss the days of Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain going 1-1 press coverage all ****ing day and making WR/QB look terrible. Obviously we have two young guys to watch for in the future. Hopefully they have a good learning season.
S- Terrible... Wilson and Bell are the same ****ing guy. Neither can cover for ****. And if their tackling in the first two games is any indication of the rest of the year... Good god we're in for a long season.
Maybe I'm just pissed or maybe I'm seeing things clearly... One of the two. -
We ran for how many yards tonight? Don't Te's have something to do with that?
Bell had a good game, Wilson stole money from Stephen Ross.
JT disappointed the hell out of me this game.Fin D likes this. -
The Colts defenders were relieved to see him come back on the field.
He made a few plays but he did nothing to dispel the notion that he needs replaced.
Pennington gives us the best chance to win? Yeah yeah whatever, hand him the clip board and lets see if we need to draft a new QB next year or not. -
we always have San Diego's # for whatever reason.
They just never got the ball last week. -

Also, I don't know if they showed this on TV, but there was a play where Joey Haynos ran uncovered down the field and Pennington checked down. The entire crowd noticed it and was screaming for Pennington to make the look. To his credit, the play was converted for a first down, but it would have been an easy touchdown and the first plus of the season to that dismal TE group. -
I commend you P for your optimism, but I have to throw some of my own issues out there. This is two weeks in a row our #1 pick from last yr, the highest paid linemen in the NFL has been exposed in pass protection. Granted Freeney is a man amongst boys, he still spent way too much time on his arse. And one thing that makes me so upset is when a linemen gives up on a play. And..he did. He gave up on blocking Freeney and Penny got sacked, all on Jake. But the line was solid for the most part. the running was great in this game. Penny is a game manager, but he limits himself sometimes and he looks for the safety route too quick sometimes. More than once I saw a wideout or TE break away in the middle of the field wide open and he dumped it off the RB, or FB. The play calling on O is embarrassing at times. You can only go to the well so many times before even the worst D's in the league are going to stop you. The draw play......wow, used so much. Ginn is NOT a #1 wr, the sooner the front office accepts that the better. He avoids contact, is unwilling to fight for yards, has terrible field awareness, which he showed over and over (not knowing where the first down marker was, not knowing where out of bounds was in the end zone). Pat White....I am a HUGE Pat White fan..hence my sig, but if he's coming in for two plays on an obvious option route just to hand the ball off to Ricky down the middle, whats the point? The second play was cut off by Freeney but he could have ate the contact and pitched it to RB, he looked scared. If these guys are scared to take hits I want them off my team! Now...on to the D.....we HAVE TO....simply HAVE TO, do a better job at rushing the QB and disguising blitzes. How anyone in the world thought that Manning wouldn't audible out of the all out blitz we sent at the end is beyond me. Channing is not a Mike LB, as Sick has said multiple times..he's an Akin Ayodele. He's a #2 MLB, and again as I said in a proir thread, as long as we plug mediocre players into key positions on our team we will remain mediocre.

At least that is the way I see it, the Oline played well enough to win, so did Penny, and why is it difficult to grasp that when Ronnie and Ricky and Cobbs are pounding the ball, something every fan has called for, the passing game is not in the forefront? -

I thought the defense rotated and that sack was on Vernon Carey, but could be wrong.
