Donte Stallworth to the fins

With the abundance of WR talent in NE what are everyones thoughts on aquiring Stallworth whether by tradeing a LATE round pick or if he's released. He's being so overshadowed I wouldnt be suprised if after he gets a ring he wants out of NE.

You may be right I just think he's constantly overshadowed and not given the opportunity. In NO it was Joe Horn, in Philly it was T.O., and in NE well............you all know
he has played well and fit into his role there.
he is due some real crazy money there after this season and NE will look to sign him to a contract in line with his worth. He just may restructure and stay to be apart of something special. But rest assure that he will look for large money to leave there becasue he will only go to a team as a primary target. if he is going to be a second option he might as well stay in NE and try to do something historic or something
He will be a FA i think just like Moss. They will not keep both, you will not have to trade for him
houtzNew MemberHe wasn't in Philly when T.O was there. He came in to replace T.O and did a god awful job at it. He's going to want a lot of money and I think Miami is getting sick of overpaying for players (,see Joey Porter). If we can get him for cheap I'll take him. Otherwise, no thank you.
I forgot he was only on a one year deal. I think he could be great in our offense for the right price. I don't think he'd command too much because he didnt have that great of a season compared to moss and welker. IMO he'd be a nice pick up if not overpayed

BUT in essence it it a 1 year deal becasue NE will never go for this.
Here are the details.
Stallworth will receive an initial signing bonus of $1 million, a roster bonus of $1.6 million and a $300,000 workout bonus, to go along with his 2007 base salary of $700,000. That totals $3.6 million for the coming season.
It's after the 2007 season, however, when the really big money could kick in.
For the Patriots to retain Stallworth for the 2008 season, they must pay him an option bonus of $6 million by Feb. 25, 2008. There is a subsequent roster bonus of $2 million due March 1, a second roster bonus of $1.6 million based on playing time, a base salary of $1 million and a $400,000 workout bonus. That totals an exorbitant $11 million for 2008, or a two-year total of $14.6 million.

I'm more curious about what NE will do with Chad Jackson.
i never was a big fan of his when he played for the saints. we have enough number 2 recievers on this team right now..idk he might be one of the best available but something about the guy i don't like..maybe it was the drug issues. maybe cause he couldn't beat out our ex-number 3 reciever(welker).

sports24/7subscriberI don't know what Parcells and Ireland's thoughts on the guy are, but don't forget Stallworth was very close to coming to Miami this past offseason and chose the Pats because of the chance to play with Brady.

outside of games missed due to injury, how did he do an awful job? in 12 games played, he had 725 rec yards and 5 tds. oOver 16 games, this projects to 1000 yards and 7 td. TO numbers? no. awful? hardly.

In essence a proove it deal. I think NE was right on with this type of contract and I think more teams should use this proove it deal type of thing to pick up what would be "questionable" FA signings.

It's all about the matchup....
If you're the QB, are you going to throw to the WR against the #2 cb or the WR going up against the LB?
The guy is excelling due to the fact that NE put him in a position to excel as the deep threat. He is no number 1 receiver as he proved that in Philly and NO. The evil empire has the other offensive cogs in the machine so he is just a piece of the overall fit. In other words when rating evil empire receivers/backs/qb individually the sum is greater than the parts with the exception of Moss and Brady. Not knock agains him cause I liked him when he was here but do you think Welker would have excelled like this on a less talented team?

are you serious this guy could beat Welker anyday! the point of having Stallworth and Moss outside is because they are speed guy. Shutting down the deep ball means welker gets their garbage.

He did a god awful job of filling the void TO left is what I said. 5 Tds opposed to T.O's 15+? Yeah I'd take T.O any day of the week.
Mediocrities
Why do fans on struggling teams constantly want to sign role players, or system players from good squads in free agency? Up until Patrick Crayton signed an extension with the Cowboys we heard his name linked to the Dolphins, and there were many souls on this forum who wanted him. Crayton is a decent player, on a very good offense, period. He demonstrated in the playoffs he is not a clutch player. It's like the Titans overpaying David Givens, or the Skins seriously overpaying Antawn Randle El. Donte Stallworth is a decent player on the greatest offense to ever play the game. Outside of his rookie year, I can never recall Stallworth's potential star quality on a football field. He's fast, but he's not consistent. Barring a ridiculous offer from a desperate team, he should stay where he's at, even if he has to settle for less. Do you think Lawyer Milloy and Ty Law wish they had settled for less (and by less we're still talking about absurd sums of money--in the tens of millions) to stay in NE as opposed to playing for bottom feeders like the Bills, Jets, Chiefs and Falcons? That's why Moss is going to settle for less and stay, and if he doesn't, he's insane.
