Why did he opt out? He must have another job already lined up

The Bills get a good QB and they have a more complete team than we do. Some coach is going to like that job.

Well so much for all that optimism and all those good feelings in Buffalo. What a way to have the rug pulled out from under you.

Interesting to see where Marrone will go next and why he would do this. To leave Buffalo and their roster for the media circus/roster the Jets job presents, just doesn't make any sense to me. Now some of the other jobs out there, maybe so. Still as others have already stated, Buffalo is just a solid starting QB and a few other pieces from being a playoff team (possibly deep playoffs). Plus the new owners seem committed to Buffalo and the overall culture Marrone was building seemed to have the makings of a team on the rise. Just odd.

I suppose the details will filter out in the coming days however. Curious to see what they are.

Apparently he had an opt out clause IF ownership was changed, which happened after Wilson's death. And apparently, he wanted a long term commitment (extension) from the new ownership, and didn't get one. So he decided to opt out and begin searching for a more stable position.

It's being reported that Marrone still gets paid his 2015 salary from Buffalo with no offsets.

I hope Sparano takes the Bills job.

I've read speculation that the Bills and Jets might end up "trading" head coaches, with Rex going to Buffalo and Marone to NY. If that happens, I propose that the entire division should follow suit, and we send Philbin to the Pats and get Darth Hoodie for us. Only seems fair.

Really hoping that doesn't happen. They already have some good pieces on that defense.

The best situation for him is SF and Atlanta.. Bears almost sounded like a great homecoming for him but the talent Atlanta and SF is too hard to pass up.

That would be terrible. I want Rex in the NFC.

Casserly and Wolf may have set the Jets back even further!

If Schwartz can walk out of Buffalo, that could be a huge opportunity for us, to replace Coyle! I think thier modest success was all on The shoulders of Schwarts' defense.

First off, no one take Mehta seriously. He can't even get anyone from the Jets organization to talk to him and he's extremely bitter about that. That said, I don't think Marrone would be a terrible hire. I saw him as the 3rd best coach in the AFC East and rising. While the Jets played competitive games against NE and Miami, Buffalo dismantled them twice. The Jets could do a lot worse than Marrone.

    PS. Schwartz is under contract.

  18. Agreed, they would be a monster defense.
