You weren't turned off by his spot-on analysis of Marino after he was drafted? Ive never taken the guy seriously because of that. Im sure he's a great writer though.

EDIT: I also cant stand when people (especially writers) refer to the Dolphins as "fish"

I distinctly get the feeling he barely watched Beck play.

People have opinions, people are wrong. Even the best in the business aren't right 50% of the time. You'd be hard pressed to find any writer, and I mean anyone, that knows more about football then Dr. Z on all these sites.

but yeah, Dr. Z has forgotten more about football then i'll probably ever know. i respect that.

You're right. I am a little biased towards him because of that, and I dont want to make this a love/hate thread with Dr. Z.

I just think if you miss on a guy who arguably became the best EVER at his position then maybe other things you say should be taken lightly.

I enjoyed the 'parting shots' at the end.

true... but he's been more correct of late. you're citing something from 25+ years ago dude. ;)

if you've read him of late, he's been pretty accurate with his observations (read: NOT with his superbowl picks  )

yeah i dont' take him too serious about this talent scouting for prospects, just find his info on other aspects of football and current players pretty damn good.

He's the one guy in america who spotted Will Allen as a talent and appointed him to the allpro team, and gave Satele and honorable mention, as a rookie. And no, that's not the reason I like him. :D Unlike others who give awards, he actually grades each player with film.

But I see your point. Damn that's a long time to be jaded! lol.

he makes fun of himself for his "pusher" comment on Marino gotta respect a guy that isnt to full of himself to be a little humble.

Now here's what's interesting. When Beck was drafted, here's what he had to say about John: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/dr_z/04/29/draft.report.card/3.html

But when he visits for his camp notes article, he gives Beck about as much attention as you'd give an undrafted free agent nobody who's set to be cut in a week.

    What gives?

I've always held his opinions in high regard, as he always does his homework, but this article seems to be a half assed attempt. Although I can't say I blame him, he's reporting on a 1-15 team based in South Florida. Although, from what Ben Volin was saying in his blog, they spent half of training camp chewing the fat in the shade. Not sure what to make of it.
