Dwyane Wade actually ranks as the 7th most disliked sports figure in US Sports NOW if you add up his total Que rating.
Bosh's total Que score is not large enough to make a national list...but he is now among the most disliked in the NBA.
ahhhhh....the coincidence.
it must have been that spectacle Wade made of himself with Bosh doing that gaudy announcement with Wilbon on July 8th in the middle of the day.
I think I rest my case.

What was your case?
I think most people's problem with the super team is that instead of watching three of the best players compete and have battles - they banded together and in peoples' minds, "took the easy way out".
So people have a negative view because they viewed these guys as the next Bird vs Magic - but instead they chose to just join forces.
I'm not saying it was right or wrong - but from a purely fan standpoint I think you can see why this would be unappealing. -

Blame it on the rain of Lebron.

if these people that "dislike" these guys had a favorite team. and their team signed them instead of miami. they'd be blowing the 3kings collective johnson's all at once.

You can say they are "haters" and just jealous - but I don't think it is ridiculous to think that the casual fan could view them in a negative light for taking what is perceived as the easy way out. -
The casual fan is now excited about the NBA again. People want to watch dynasties. This is why basketball lost popularity after Jordan retired the second time. The dynasty ended. Shaq and Kobe couldn't quite recreate that magic.
The Heat have.
This is good for the NBA.texasPHINSfan and SICK like this. -

I find it near unbelievable that there can be so much hand wringing over a Q rating prior to the season?
Who cares?
What should happen? Universal love and adoration?
It is a known Fact that no one likes the rich kids, which is why ESPN is going 24/7 with Heat coverage, they want to be certain to set up the Heat to not be liked, to be overexposed, that way they cannot lose.
Next step is to start hyping rival Teams, a Dynasty is only as good as it's Rivals, Bird made Magic, Jordan made the Bad Boys, Knicks made the Bulls.
Basically, this boils down to a dispute over negative marketing of the Heat, as if every game won't be sold out where they play..:DBlameItOnTheHenne and adamprez2003 like this. -
I don't much care about what people think of me or of celebrities. But I am very interested in psychology. I am fascinated when people have emotional opinions that are devoid of logic. There is no logical reason why a player like Wade (or LBJ for that matter) should be higher on the list than players accused of horrendous crimes. There are, however, illogical, emotional reasons for it. The quote that comes to mind is that "people will forget what you say and what you did, but they'll never forget how you made them feel." I find it interesting how often people are such emotional, unthinking creatures.

I dont get the Wade hate. I get the hate on Lebron and Bosh but not Wade. I mean, Im a Knicks fan and I think Wade is awesome and fun to watch about as much as a Knick fan can like a Heat player. The guy did nothing wrong. He flirted with Chicago for about 5 minutes but everyone has a right to think about "going home" and that is where he grew up. He never really was serious about NY or anywhere else. I felt Lebron and Bosh kinda deceived people and dragged things out but thats my opinion. This is just Wade being guilty by association.

What i dont get is how guys like Donte Stallworth and Leonard Little arent higher on that list? I mean I didnt like Lebron/Bosh's decision or how they handled it but theres no way they should be thought of worse then guys like Stallworth. They didnt kill anyone. Well maybe the NBA, for now, but you get the point.
-
Well, look at it this way, ESPN is on the Heat's every move, when was the last time they mentioned Stallworth hitting that man?
Leonard who?
Meanwhile, every day, another story about how "fans" are outraged!!!
Eh, Wade and Bosh (who have gotten more coverage the last 4 months than he had in yrs in Toronto) are merely in the James Negative news orbit. -
Like I said, I felt Lebron and Bosh could have handled their decision better. That has nothing to do with the team they chose. But I dont think they did anything terrible like some other athletes have. -
BSPN has the contract to broadcast games, they intend to hype them to grow the market, by the time they are done, even casual sports fans who are not particularly interested in the NBA will know all of the names of the Heat players.
As Cowherd has said, he has a 3 hour show and gives the NBA all sorts of free advertising time, now multiply that by all of BSPN's outlets, and the other outlets who feed off of BSPN.
Baseball coverage will shrink mainly due to demographics, NBA coverage will grow for the same reasons. -
-
The second mistake is believing what he has to say. Its not how long you get to advertise for but how effective you are it.
That BSPN hypes up the Heat means nothing. They can talk about them all they want. All three are great players...you have two of the top 3 and another in the top 15 (Bosh). Its a matter of what those guys have accomplished on the court. Those guys have never been in trouble and they have never done anything seriously wrong. Yes, some fans like me were jaded by they didnt pick my team. And even more fans were annoyed by the BSPN special they had. And a few more were that they took their sweet time enjoying the process and dragging things out. But they arent criminals so by treating them like they are its BSPN and their listeners who lose credibility for believing the nonsense they are babbling about.
Now I have to go shower again because defending the Heat is almost as dirty as defending the Jets or Bills. -
Sports aren't based around logic. It isn't logical for me to spend this much time, money and brainpower following sports. It is completely based on emotion.
If you asked me who my most hated athlete is, I would say Kevin Garnett - because in the realm of being an athlete and within sports, I hate that guy.
Sure there are guys that have committed crimes and other horrible things - and on a personal level I definitely put them ahead of Garnett.
But if the question is in terms of athletes I think of people who impact my watching sports.
If you asked me who I hate the most in my personal life - I am going to name a few choice ex-girlfriends before Hitler. Not because their crimes are worse, and not because I am jealous they are with someone new, but because they had a more direct impact on my life. -
No offense to West Coast Phin Fans, but Cowherd is the "West Coast Spineless Sleazeball" to the proverbial "T".
When I do occasionally watch that network it occurs to me that the anchors are no different than a Billy Mays infomercial, they hype and tout their broadcasting product and the "Stars" in the broadcasts.
Covering Heat practices? That is a unheard of use of broadcast time, so why would they do it?
How much are the paying to broadcast NBA games? Not even TNT, whose main sports package is the NBA, is covering the practices..
:lol:PhiNomina likes this. -
ESPN is not in the sports business - they are in the athlete business. Go to Youtube and watch the "Fake Spike" clip. The SportsCenter highlights are 9:40 for that game. Not because of the fake spike - that is just how much time they spent covering the full game. Now you get one, MAYBE two highlights. The rest is all about individual players.
They build them up, tear them down and build them back up.
Look at our Jets game - after Braylon caught the TD they said he had "redeemed" himself. In what world does catching touchdown passes redeem you from driving drunk? How many TD passes does Donte Stallworth have to catch to bring that guy back to life?
ESPN is the MSNBC or FOX News of sports - it is skewed and twisted to tell a narrative. And right now that narrative is about the Miami Heat.
I don't like LeBron - and it is ridiculous that Wade is being dragged down with him, but I think it has more to do with ESPN's brainwashing than with race. I believe Sec showed that Bron still has one of the highest Q scores as well - again, just like MSNBC and FOX News, they are forcing people to have an extreme opinion, be it positive or negative, because it helps them boost ratings. -
BTW I don't follow sports that way. You won't see me in any of those threads that bag on Jets players just b/c they are Jets. I admired CP when he was a Jet. I defended the playing ability of Brady and Sanchez. I also criticized Marino, who is probably my favorite player of all time, for the things he did poorly. So while there is obviously emotion in sports, that doesn't mean that it has to make people blind.Bumrush likes this. -
You mentioned the easy way out.. If you could make a million dollars working really hard and slaving, day in and day out, or had a brilliant idea and made a fast million, would people be criticizing you for "taking the easy way out?" -
And I am similar to you in that I can look at sports rationally, but that doesn't mean there isn't emotion involved and players I don't like for things they do ON the court. Garnett is a punk on the court so I don't like him. If you ask me athletes I don't like, I am going to think of them in the context of their lives as athletes - not personal lives. -
-
Chris Bosh sucks.
-
-
really?
Dwayne Wade is a great person on and off the court....he stays outta trouble and does what he is supposed too. PPL treating Wade a guy who stayed loyal to his city deserves better. -
I think you have worn out your welcome.
you are just being stupid for the hell of it now.
