Ed Werder just said on ESPN that the Dolphins are discouraged with Tannehill's performance in big games and the team believes that most of the sacks are his fault.

What?? Alright, might have to call this guy out on twitter, this makes no ****ing sense, how many big games has Tanny played?? 1-2 maybe if that.

Granted those two turnovers he had in the first half did kill what chance we did have to win, or at least keep it close.

Big games?
First game of the season is a big game based on it being the first game. They didn't seem disappointed with him, then.
Game versus Andrew Luck and Indy that we won? Big game. Whether he actually outdueled Luck or not can be disputed, but what can't is that Tannehill came up big and got the win. They certainly didn't seem disappointed with him, then.
First home game, against ATL, who were a Super Bowl contender last year. Tannehill leads a perfect final drive for the win. They didn't seem disappointed with him, then, either.
Tannehill played badly against the Saints. MNF so I guess that makes it a big game. So that one loss in "big games" against the three wins in basically all big games? Sounds to me like Ed Werder is fed misinformation.
As far as taking sacks -- and, not mentioned, the fumbling issue -- it's true to some degree that a number of the sacks could probably have been avoided and that ball security is an issue. But from everything Philbin or Sherman have said publicly, no one is more judicious about those playing defects than Ryan Tannehill, and he immediately works to correct those mistakes.
This is a total: I don't get it. Last week, Tannehill was going great from word inside the organization. This week, the organization is disappointed with him in big games. Doesn't make sense.Tin Indian, derek, HULKFish and 14 others like this. -
Yeah....because the only folks that would know.....Philbin, Sherman, Ross, Moore, and Zac decided it would be good to tell Ed Werder so he can write a negative anonymous report about the team while we are trying to boost attendance and positivity. Yeah. Thats exactly what happened. Not to mention......we are 3 and 1....there is only 1 conceivable game he could have NOT performed well in.

This is patently absurd! Is the kid perfect? No, he's still developing. Beyond that, he's been downright awesome and killer at times. Bizarre statement to make whoever within the organization said this.

Suspending judgement until more than one source says this to lend credibility.

I think the Werder thing is asinine for a lot of the reasons already mentioned up-thread.
That said, Ryan has gotta stop putting the ball on the ground. They got away with it during the first three weeks of the season when they were converting about 87% of their red-zone trips into touchdowns, but that number is unsustainable and we're due for a significant amount of regression through the remainder of the season. Consider that tops in the league last season was in the 65% range. -

Last year and this offseason I was a bit torn about our Qb, I saw great pocket potential, accuracy, but also poor awareness of the rush which resulted in limited playmaking ability and a lethargic style of movement within the pocket, and that's something that has reared it's head here in the first quarter, now I'm trying to understand the dynamics involved, the variables that could possibly prohibit him from engaging some aspects to his game that might be there, so I'm willing to stay patient considering the low amount of reps at the position, the transition of positions, and the fact that I can't wrap my head around his athleticism not being able to help him in the pocket, I've thought long and hard about the time frame his oline is giving him to setup and survey, and we know for a fact that it's below average, so it's a very difficult evaluation as it relates to his ceiling and what he could possible do when it does give him the proper time..I do know that going from receiver to Pocket Qb and playing at the level he has, has been very impressive to me, almost unprescedented, so it might just be a matter if time before it all just clicks...I feel like he's improving incrementally, but at this pace, he might have to shift the things he works on in practice....
It's all about the multitasking of a QB...it's a lot to digest, lets hope he won't be spinning this Sunday, should be fun to watch, I'd like to see him say fu&$ it, and just take off a few times regardless of the play.lol...but hold that ball hi and tight son, and think about wearing a glove on the other hand.. -
How many "big" games have we played in?
I would argue none last year (maybe the Indy game)
Find it hard to believe the NO game was "bigger" than Indy this year, given that it's a nonconference game.
The report seems silly. And the notion that most of the sacks are his fault is absurd. Ed werder should read CK's articles and learn somethingthe 23rd likes this. -
This team has not played in a big game during the Philbin era, imo

I like what Lou Holtz recently said recently about coaches losing "big games". He was talking about Mark Richt and the perception that he keeps losing "big games".
He said it seems like every loss you take was a "big game". But when you win, it wasn't as big. I think that's the relevant point here.
In the Colts game the Dolphins faced a 2012 playoff team that expects to be a 2013 playoff team, in their house. Wasn't that a "big game"?
The next week the Dolphins faced an Atlanta Falcons team that had lost three games a year ago and went to the NFC Championship Game. This was the Dolphins' first home game of the year, a sellout crowd. Wasn't that also a "big game"?
The other thing that doesn't pass the smell test is the coaches believing "most" of the sacks to be Ryan Tannehill's fault. But that's just because I actually break down the film and can show exactly why that's not the case. -
What a difference a week makes. Tannehill orchestrates a game winning drive against the Falcons and he receives praise from all sources, He has a bad game on MNF against a great home team and he`s criticized for it. Take it with a grain of salt people. He needs to be more aware in the pocket we all know that but I like what I see so far. With the issues we have on this team right now I feel comfortable saying QB is not one of them.

I find it hard to believe the FO is all of the sudden unhappy with RT based on one bad game this season. Perhaps there is some lingering embarrassment because we got blown out on national TV?
Clearly he is a WIP, and based on his limited experience at the position will take some time to develop. I think we'll all know more by season's end. How he bounces back against a tough Ravens D at home this Sunday is what I'm interested in.mbsinmisc likes this. -
That colts game could end up being huge in a tie breaker -
I wonder if Ed Werder's source is Brian Gaine.

If someone did say this (I am seriously doubting any creditability to this btw), I would wager it's not on the coaching staff.
Here are some snippets posted today from ESPN's James Walker. Take it for what its worth but it doesn't sound like discouragement, but encouragement to me. But again, it might be my ruby colored glasses.

Even if the coaches/FO were unhappy with Tannehill (they aren't) they would never admit it

I rarely watch ESPN b/c of stuff like this, I unfollowed the twitters of most of the Dolphins reporters as they were not professionals, their reporting was sloppy and they had the manners of a dung beetle.
THill objectively has a problem with turnovers, especially fumbles, otherwise his performance has been fine.
I do agree THill tends to hold the ball to long, I think most of the routes are short and the ball MUST leave his hand more quickly.
Further think this is a product of THill trusting his offensive line AND being coached to stick in the pocket and to not run out of the pocket, we pretty much saw the same thing last yr. I also think Sherman has some biases in play calling that do not fit our talent. -
By the way I don't agree with Werder, I just thought what he said was interesting.

If the coaches are unhappy with Tannehill, I'm interested in a new coaching staff. Russell Wilson has had two sub 65 rating games and I love the guy. This was Tannehill's first below 82. If our coaching staff called a **** game like the NO game, makes some baffling personnel decisions like Daniel Thomas ever touching the football, and has the nerve to say Tannehill is the problem, they shouldn't be our coaching staff.

Doubt it was any of the FO or the coaches... if anyone at all "inside" the organization, it could have just as easily have been that Werder's "sources" were John Jerry or Ryan Clabo... lol...
