He walked off, but if it is going to cause him to miss any more time he should just shut it down and get the foot surgery that he has been putting off since week one last year, and rehab all the other stuff for next year. There is no way his foot isn't aggravating everything else.
Well Williams was injured so he obviously couldn’t play but I agree 1000%…you have to have a TRUE center on the OL. You can have a guard as a backup center but you need that true center on the OL
To no one’s surprise, Armstead has been ruled out against the Giants. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38550030/dolphins-terron-armstead-ruled-vs-giants-knee-injury
Eichenberg with 4.2 (not a typo, there is a decimal point in there) pass protection rating this week, single-handedly destroying a game plan. Take into account he got bulldozed into Armstead and caused his injury and also chased a guy 8 yards downfield on a pass play to wipe out a TD, he should be cut this week.
its all fine guys stop worrying. Grier isn't worried and he's knows more about OLINE play than any of us could dream about knowing. We just had bad luck again, and again, and again, and again. Next year when everyone's healthy we will show em all!
This tells you all you need to know about our oline scouting. We probably have the worst oline scouts in the NFL, and a GM who seems to put very little importance on shoring up the oline. The two worst centers in the NFL by far are both guys we drafted.
I for one can't understand this. The O Line is where it all starts and the Center is where it all starts on the O Line. One thing on tape now is how to rush/pressure the Center to get Tua off the quick throws. The Giants don't have the same talent and are ranked 29th in Defense. They are putting an incredible amount of pressure on their two rookie cornerbacks, especially considering Deonte Banks keeps getting banged up during games. That burden becomes even greater when their pass rush is averaging fewer than one sack per game while ranking 31st in pressure rate. Considering only the Vikings and Patriots have blitzed more often, that is a massive issue for them. The line needs to be prepared for the blitz and stunts. Maybe keep a tight end in. Bills used 8 men in the box to over whelm the middle of the reconstructed line and help stop the run game. If they can buy some time for Tua, he should be able to pick them apart. It also gives Liam another game at Center where hopefully he can do better than last week.
Miami Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead is once again sidelined due to injury. A dominant lineman when he is healthy, Armstead has had more than a career’s worth of injuries keep him from being able to play; in 11 seasons in the NFL, he has never played every regular season game in a year and he has averaged just 10 games a season. Armstead missed the first two games this year due to back, ankle, and knee issues, returned for Week 3’s game against the Denver Broncos, then had his leg caught under a couple of players during the team’s Week 4 contest against the Buffalo Bills. The good news is, it was not the same knee that caused issues last year or this year. The bad news is, it appears Armstead will be sidelined for at least the next several games. “It looks to be weeks not days,” head coach Mike McDaniel explained on Monday. “We have to kind of see how everything settles down and then we’ll be able to make a better prognosis for that timeline here in a couple days, by the end of the week or so. But I can say that he won’t be playing in the next game, but he will be playing again this season.” McDaniel then confirmed Kendall Lamm, who started the first two games of the year at left tackle, returns to the starting lineup in place of Armstead. “Kendall has done a tremendous job this season,” McDaniel explained. “I did see him do a good job in this past game. I also did see a difference that he would attest to that when you’re preparing all week to be the starter or you’re getting 20 to 30 percent of the amount of reps. That’s nature of the business for a lot of guys. When you aren’t starting, you have to be the best version of yourself. I think that he kind of holds himself accountable to being as good, if he is getting starter reps or not, so that’s something that he can chew on moving forward. But I have all the confidence he’s played his tail off and is a huge part of our room. I know nobody on offense has anything but confidence in his play and him being there.” Injuries have not only hampered Armstead when it comes to Miami’s offensive line. Starting center Connor Williams has missed playing time dealing with a groin injury, leading to backup guard Liam Eichenberg to speed up his conversion to center. Of Eicheneberg’s play, McDaniel said, “Center is a funny position in terms of it is pretty remarkable that outside of one kind of snap that was kind of a lollipop, he executed things – the only way teammates can actually perform is if he executes, and he did it with an ease that shouldn’t be understated with regard to making calls. We didn’t have any declaration issues and the snapping process.” It was not all positive for Eichenberg during the game, and McDaniel pointed that out as well, adding, “There are definitely some plays that he wishes he could have back. Some that were particularly in pass protection where he’s kind of getting adjusted to the speed with which games happen and then at the center position, the defender is literally right on top of you. You don’t have the space like the rest of the linemen do between you, so it just happens a little bit faster. There are a couple things that he will learn from and get better from. It was a solid first game starting at that position that the coaches want him to get better and learn from it, and I know he does too. So it was a good starting point to build from.” The Dolphins offensive line has played solid football this year, but they struggled against a relentless pass rush from the Bills - a pass rush that often was coming with just four players, freeing up the rest of the defense to cover Miami’s receivers. The defensive linemen were disciplined, and they were determined to either get to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa or to muddy his passing lanes. Tagovailoa has multiple passes batted down at the line of scrimmage, tipped off target, or thrown inaccurately as he tried to avoid linemen. Miami’s offensive line needs to do a better job of keeping the pressure off Tagovailoa, and keeping the defensive linemen from having the freedom to get their hands into the passing lanes. With Armstead out, the line will take a step backwards, though Lamm may be able to keep it from being a huge step back. If Williams continues to be sidelined, Eichenberg has to get used to starting at center in a hurry. McDaniel seems to think the line will be fine with Lamm at left tackle, and potentially Eichenberg continuing to start at center. They will need to prove his faith is properly placed starting this week against the New York Giants.
McDaniel needs to adjust once again. The OL looked good prior to Buffalo because of scheme and Tua's fast release. We got a reality check against Buffalo. McDaniel just needs to show he can scheme around that too. Hard to do midseason, but it's a great test of how good a coach he is or is not.
For Armstead, he has a number of lingering injuries that were slowing him down...and he was still dominant. Time caught up with him though and it sounds like the Fins are trying to get him fully healthy instead of just getting him back on the field. It's frustrating for sure but 8 running TD's the other week says that he still belongs on this roster.
Remember, Grier is not worried about the oline, he is counting on McDaniel to scheme his way out off having a piss poor oline.
I don't think any scheme can work when your center is being graded at 4.2 out of 100 in pass protection. I get PFF ratings are subjective but I don't think I've ever seen anyone that low. I've watched a few different YouTube videos with the All-22 content and just focused on Eichenberg and he was getting beat nearly every single play. It was horrible to watch. The Dolphins were essentially playing with 4 linemen.
Eichenberg burner account? Looks pretty obvious if you ask me. https://x.com/_mlfootball/status/1709601850633404837?s=42&t=3BgtU8OXYy3ynLXrzdJ2Cw
It’s weird how stubborn he is about the OL. He has done a pretty good job elsewhere - I think he (for whatever reason) doesn’t value OL or LB. Not having a true center on the roster is head scratching , to say the least . Last year, Roquan Smith could have been had for a mid round pick and he passed to spend a first on Chubb. Smith is better than all the interior LBs we have combined, and we would have held on to that first round pick.
I'm sorry, but that's the best thing ever! Maybe a year before you showed up here, we had a member that did that across multiple accounts. He would have conversations complimenting himself and trolling others on nearly every person in the organization. Most of his accounts eventually got banned, but I'm sure he's still here (or on another forum) in some fashion because he literally lived to troll people here. If that is Eichenberg, all I can say is more power to him! Mental health is important and some people just can't cope without stirring a pot or two.
They actually have Miami at #8: Lamm- 29 Jackson- 34 Hunt- 9 Wynn- 65 Williams- 5 Armstead was #10 but isn’t ranked likely due to number of snaps.
I loathe Eich.... But he sort of held his own on Sunday. He was not a factor in the game.... And in many ways that is a win.
If they somehow manage to turn him around into a decent starting OL I might begin to think that this coaching staff could walk on water.
I agree.... (Walking on water that is...) For decades we have seen other organizations develop linebackers and offensive linemen taken in the 5th and 6th rounds into starters and even pro bowlers. We have never been able to coach up those players. Often we would see players leave Miami and catch on somewhere else and get coached up to become good and useful players somewhere else. Changing that... Makes us contenders all by itself. Transforming Eich into an average center and a good backup.... Is a miracle... The guy looked like garbage... If we can see transformations like this.... anything is possible.
