Looking online nothing reported as of yet on NFL.com or ESPN.com Sure it will happen but nothign yet in print..
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3162909 "Bill Parcells has signed his contract with the Miami Dolphins. It is a four-year deal to become the team's executive vice president of football operations, according to a Dolphins source. Parcells faxed the contract to the team. The Dolphins are expected to make a formal announcement Thursday afternoon. Parcells will finish his duties as an ESPN analyst, appearing on ESPN Radio Primetime this Friday at 7 p.m. ET, and concluding with his work for the final "Monday Night Football" game -- Denver at San Diego -- of the season." It's a good day to be a Dolphins fan!
what are you worried about? He has more football savy in his left arm than the entire staff. He will get the right people to do the job..
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/don_banks/12/19/parcells/1.html Read, Banks is right about Parcells.
Yep, I lived through him up here for years. I hope Banks is wrong, but Parcells track record shows his not.
Being a Jersey boy myself, its just hard to take his HC track record and define what that means as a VP of Football Operations. I still have reservations as to what his joining our FO means - short term and long term. This will play out and we will see who is calling the shots and making the real decisions and how it all molds together.
Congratulations... Bill Parcells will make the Fins competitive again... I bet the Cowboys, the Patriots, and the Jets are worried.
Well guys honestly Bill has been sucessful at EVERY level of his NFL career. I do no't see why there would be any reason he won't be sucessful as a VP. He now has a home in Jupiter Florida (i used to live there as well he has complete power, a nice paycheck and the drive to itching to get back into the game... We will be fine, it will not be overnight but it will happen within 2/3 years.
I find it funny but all of us New York New Jersey guys have big reservations about whether this is a good move or not. The guy is a hell of a coach. Him and Lombardi are probably the two best of all time at getting the most out of players. But I dont know about his personnel decisons and I'm not sure how he'll handle being VP. This guy can be a Napolean. Hopefully it all works out
Not so sure there will be a press conference. I think it will just be an official statement from the Dolphins announcing the hiring. Parcells is still in New York I believe.
That's what people said of Jimmy Johnson and Nick Saban as well. I'm holding back my enthusiasm until Parcells proves that he can indeed sort out this mess of a franchise. Like a lover dumped once too often, I'm not crying wolf (or saviour) again. I've learned my lesson. The hard way, I might add.
The only major difference Banks left out is the fact that Bill is not coming here to be a H.C like he was in the other situations. He can be here for a few years and build a great staff and then be on his way without any ill effects. He may even have a young apprentice to take his place when he leaves. I see what Banks is saying though, we need to build this organization with young personnel structure who will be here for the long run. With Bill as VP we can still accomplish that. I think that's the whole point of hiring him.
You are not kidding, I can remember all of the "In Saban we trust" stuff...cloying nonsense.... I do trust Tuna to make the hard decisions, like firing or keeping Mueler and Cam, cutting or trading Ricky, stuff like that though, but until we start making some moves, I'll not be joining "In Tuna We Trust" because that can easily become "Sorry padre..."
Yea I am somewhat excited about the move but same time I could just as easily see it backfire and set us back anymore if parcells picks up what he wants and then it doesn't work out will really hurt us. Like they say with great risk is great reward though.
I think it is amazing that the only time the Dolphins make the news is not by their play on the field.
As a Tri-State area guy, let me say that I am VERY HAPPY. Parcells is a winner in all his endeavors and if nothing else, KNOWS TALENT. He is a proven NFL commodity. No hype or hope. No speculation of how he'll translate in the NFL. He is a living legend in the sport. I'd rather a proven man lead us to being competitive again, versus a crap shoot of men who lead us to disgrace. Thank Jerry Jones. If that fool didn't step on Parcell's toes and bring in T.O., he'd still be in Dallas. Look at the job, talent wise, Parcell's did there through drafting! What killed us this year? A huge misevaluation of talent! There's a non-competitive situation here in Miami that he can structure and lead us into our old winning ways. He should be happy here for some time, and if he jumps ship in 3 or 4 years, thats fine...the pieces will be set.
I think the best thing about the Parcells hiring is bringing in a guy with unquestioned NFL knowledge to handle the very tough evaluation process of EVERY aspect of this team, including players, coaches and personnel evaluators. Because he was not involved in drafting any of these players or hiring any of these coaches, he won't feel the need to protect "his" guy or draft choice.
Parcells, Dolphins make it official http://www.miamiherald.com/news/breaking_news/story/351813.html ARMAMDO SALGUERO asalguero@MiamiHerald.com Bill Parcells has officially joined the Miami Dolphins. Parcells, 66, faxed a finalized copy of his contract to the Dolphins Thursday morning, according to a source close to the situation. Parcells is set to become the Dolphins' executive vice president for football operations. The team was still not commenting on the issue as of noon, but a formal announcement was being planned. Parcells wasn't answering his cellphone, but he is scheduled to do an interview at 4 p.m. Thursday on ESPN's NFL Live. Parcells, currently a studio analyst for ESPN, is expected to remain with the network through the weekend games. He is expected to come to South Florida for a formal introduction no earlier than Wednesday.
Sounds like Banks felt he was jilted, sitting there in a press room with nothing to report . If Bill leaves us like he left Dallas, I'm all for it. Remember he turned around two 1-15 teams already. Almost everything is better than 1-15.
You are kidding right? You are not sure this will be good for us? (haha) This is the best news I have heard in a long time. No more messed up first round draft picks and no more coaches that don't know what they are doing. I am so happy right now!
