Dolphins taking Henne
April 26, 2008 8:28 PM
Hashmarks has nailed another one. When the Packers took Brian Brohm with the 56th pick, a huge cheer went up in the Dolphins' draft room. Michigan quarterback Chad Henne was there guy from the start, and they're ecstatic about getting him at No. 57.
Peter King had Chad Henne going No. 20 to the Ravens in a trade. Turns out the Ravens preferred Joe Flacco from Delaware State. The Dolphins have a starting left tackle, a starting defensive end and a potential starting quarterback, and we're only to 57. And they landed a starting linebacker and tight end in a trade with the Cowboys on Friday.
I really think this has been a fantastic draft for the Dolphins. I'm sure fans in South Florida are thrilled. Tampa Bay almost passed on its pick. The fans were doing a countdown as the Tampa Bay selector rushed toward the main stage. The Buccaneers just took Dexter Jackson out of Appalachian State. He's small, but his speed is unbelievable. With an aging Joey Galloway, Jackson will give the Bucs another deep threat.

I am thrilled at how its gone so far.
Given the prediction that next year's QB class might not be that strong and given the fact that we still have a young QB who has not proven himself (yet), I prefer to hedge my bets while we can -- especially in the QB position.
I can think of worse positions to be in if all of our QBs exceed our expectations next year. It worked out well for San Diego a couple years ago . :)phins17 likes this. -
Tim, how would you judge our draft thus far? -
I hate to remind you, but the Chargers lost Brees with no compensation. -

Merling was to go 21st!
To the Redskins:
Quick blurb I found out there regarding Merling. he was projected at least @ 21
We got a steal today
New Starters
TE Fasano
ILB Adoyle
LT Long
DE Merling
Potentiol to Push
QB Henne
Looking at what we have for the next few years it was a great day with 3 picks and 1 trade that we got back. Now later round BP will find our bone crusher RB
Phillip Merling's stock has been dropping recently but I don't think that he will end up falling past Washington at 21. he should help them out down the road, because I don't see him having too big of an impact this season. -
I would call it a darn good first day of this draft, you know I love the Jake pick, Merling was a STEAL at 32 and Henne makes loads of sense at 57. Nothing to complain about, though I'm not too thrilled about trading away LoBook.

I liked the first day. We seemed to get great value and got the players we wanted. I am not, however, crazy about trading Lorenzo Booker.
-
I would have liked Chris Long, but I can't complain about the draft, and I have no problem with trading Booker for a 4th.

I'm still ambivalent about the Long pick, as he's still gonna have some issues at the NFL level. Merling I loved, as it was a great fit. I'm willing to bet that Matt Roth isn't happy to hear that Merling is coming on board (unless they're planning on rotating the two of them). Henne I'm against, if the freaking Bears would be satisfied with Grossman going into next year over picking Henne, you know you got a bum QB. Meh, it is what it is, and we'll see how it goes this year.

That's just a single team - Carolina, the Jets, KC, all passed despite unsettled QB situations, and I'm supposed to be happy about him getting to us? No way, especially with the way the team and he underachieved through the years.Last edited: Apr 26, 2008 -

That being said, do we have a clue? The answer has been no for years, so only time will tell if Beck and Henne are the answer.alen1 likes this. -
