Logic says Tampa Bay might be spot for Taylor
    April 25, 2008 6:53 PM

Just a thought here, but wouldn't it make some sense for Tampa Bay to at least exploring trade possibilities for Miami defensive end Jason Taylor?

Again, there are no indications there are talks going on between the Bucs and Dolphins, but it would make sense on many levels if there were. Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden has long been a fan of bringing in older players and the Bucs could use a pass rusher. Landing with the Bucs also might be nice for Taylor because it would allow him to stay in Florida and be with a playoff contender.

The asking price could be a turnoff to the Bucs, who probably don't want to give up their first-round pick (No. 20) for Taylor. The Bucs could be willing to part with a second-round pick (No. 52), but it's likely the Dolphins would want more than that.

The Bucs don't have a lot more to give because they're only holding five draft picks right now. But, maybe, the way around this would be to throw in a player.

Again, we're just speculating here, but one player that would make a lot of sense would be quarterback Chris Simms. The Bucs have an abundance of quarterbacks and it's obvious Simms isn't in their long-term plans. There's a durability risk involved with Simms, but he has been a starter in the NFL and the Dolphins need all the quarterback help they can get.

Oh, one other reason this makes sense. Dolphins president Bill Parcells is big on loyalty and has a history of bringing in guys who were with him in previous stops. Simms has never played for Parcells, but he spent a lot of time on the sidelines when Parcells was coaching his father, Phil Simms, for the New York Giants.
