Here's to a swift recovery for Dan Carpenter. Shayne Graham made a living in Cincinnati on making kicks when it didn't matter. But, he rarely ever - and I really can think of only occasion, which of course was against Miami in 2004 - that he made a kick in the clutch. He was run out of town after the Bengals playoff loss to the Jets in 2009 where he missed two chip shots.

 

Wait, something happened to Dan Carpenter?

 

Breaking news? What a letdown.

 

Carpenter hurt his knee this week in practice. Hopefully he won't be out but a week or so. I wouldn't want to bet a win on kick by Graham...but he'll do....

 

Oh cripes. if Sparano fist pumps now, that is like cheating on Carpenter.

 

I would have more confidence in Fields kicking FGs than Graham.

 

I do not consider Carepenter a clutch kicker either. He is not high up on my list of players to upgrade but he is on the list.

 

He has made clutch kicks :confused2:

 

He has choked on too many for my tastes and he has a weak leg.

 

While Carpenter has missed a decent amount in the last year, he did make that 60 yarder last year.

 

Do not get me wrong. I have nothing against him I just do not think he is that big of a loss to us. I'ld like to see us get a better kicker eventualy

 

Carpenter has made more clutch kicks than Mare ever did.

 

Seriously.........Thats your argument. Slice anyway that makes you feel better, bottom line Carpenter is an average kicker..... nothing special. He gets rattled and he makes mistakes more then top kickers typicaly make. He also has trouble kicking it through the endzone and puts extra pressure on our special teams, gives our defense short fields to defend, and when the defense does hold the short field it creates long field situtations for our offense. He is an average NFL, nothing more. Sucks if he is hurt, but its not the end of the world.

 

There is no such thing as a clutch kick in the regular season.

For the record, clutch kicks are what Adam Vinatieri did in the 2001 Super Bowl, or to help the 2006 Colts get to the Super Bowl (remember the 15-9 monstrosity against Baltimore?)

 

That is not true. Mare was super clutch up until one point in his career where he just lost it.

 

I think Carpenter has cost us a game or two this season. I honestly feel like we could have beaten the Texans the second week of the year had he not whiffed on two field goals inside the thirty yard line. That would have been a win. Correct me if i'm wrong but I think he missed one against Cleveland as well which would have given us another win. 4-5 sounds a lot better than 2-7.

 

Ok...so MAYBE Miami's offense will get a fire under their collective asses and score TDs this week...as opposed to depending on a kicker and fist pumps?

 

i thought carpenter had a groin injury, any link to the knee injury report??

 

To blame a kicker with the way we went half a season being in the bottom 2 is laughable and a bit lame imo. Carpenter is for fist pump duty only. The Offense and Defense are the ones who got us where we are. Carpenter hasn't been stella but to blame him is laughable and poor.

 

i remember watching him practice before the Texans game and he kept hooking them left. something was really up with him for a couple of weeks. i think him missing those FGs gets forgotten. thats one thing outside of QB play and coaching that really hurt the team

 

i don't blame him, but his misses were consequential.
