Haha. Basically they polled everyone who their top 5 young QBs were. They came out with Luck, Wilson, Kapernick, RG3, and Cam. In that order. But as they were debating and Trent Dilfer said there's one guy that should be on the list and it's Tanny. Said him and Luck are not depended on an individual system. They could thrive in ANY system. Trent went up a notch in my book.
thanks Nappy, missed that segment getting my kids ready for bed. I was worried from the previews that they were going to put Dalton ahead of Tannehill.
Yeah, I thought Trent Dilfer made a good point about Tannehill getting the short end of the stick. Just for anyone keeping track: Tannehill vs. Dalton - 1-0 Tannehill vs. Griffin III - 0-0 Tannehill vs. Kaepernick - 0-1 Tannehill vs. Luck - 1-1 Tannehill vs. Newton 0-0 Tannehill vs. Weeden - 1-0 Tannehill vs. Wilson - 1-0 Tannehill is 4-2 vs the QBs from 2011 and 2012 that they mentioned in the segment. Obviously he's got games against Dalton and Newton on the slate this year. He could be 6-2 by the end of this season vs those QBs. And, I'd point out that the loss to Luck was a very close contest, and the loss vs. Kaepernick was a game that was close until the final 6-7 minutes. Overall, I'd say that's pretty good, especially considering the lack of weapons in 2012 and the porous O-line thus far in 2013. They also threw the QBs from this year on there, and Tannehill has 3 games left against that class this year. Smith (x 2) and Glennon are both coming up later this season.
With the exception of Luck, none of them are outplaying tannehill. If we got our oline situated, I bet it wouldn't even be close
Not buying RG3 or Kaepernick over Tannehill. Wilson either. All 3 of those guys are run game dependent. Luck is another story, I swear he's from another planet.
If you saw him pull off that upset against USC in his freshman year, you knew he was going to be special. The Colts also know when to be bad. They've drafted Elway, Manning, and now Luck.
I think Luck is the only clear leader in that category. The rest are still under the microscope including Tanny .Not enough data to come to any conclusions IMO.
The NFL isn't tennis. These head-to-head W/L stats are meaningless. I love Tannehill. I think he's our guy, but I have no problem saying that Luck, Kap, RG3, Wilson, and Cam Newton are better QBs than he is.
I understand that as a Dolphin fan, you are going to take this position. I'm sure the fans of the Redskins, 49er's and the Seahawks all feel that their QB is better than Tannehill. I just think that if all these QB's were free agents after this season and the teams could sign them as free agents. The order would probably be Luck #1- Kaepernick#2- Wilson #3- RG3 #4 (because of his knee injury last year and Tannehill would be #5. The top four all led their teams to the playoffs last year and that is why I think they would be more sought after than Tannehill. Tannehill has time to prove he is better than some of these four QB's but I don't think he is as highly thought of around the NFL at this time as the other QB's on this list are. Maybe in a few years we can look at this list again and see where Tannehill stands at that time.
Haven't really seen any evidence that Kaep is better then Ryan. Jury is still out. On both. The other 4 I can agree with as of today.
Age old question: what would Tannehill look like playing with the 49ers and that defense, those RBs and that OLine? Kind of like when we used to ask what would Marino have done in Montana's place with all those HOFers?
I agree with that order except I would flip Wilson and Ckap..Theres something about RG's cockiness that is becoming a problem for me personally, he was unbearable during the offseason..
There was a different category for Luck in Miami a few years ago. It was the "suck for Luck" campaign that many on here thought was ridiculous. Of course I am sure the fans in Indy are extremely happy that their Colts decided to , "suck for Luck" in 2011. Sometimes winning 7 games instead of 1 or 2 games in a season works out to be the worse thing a team can do. 2011 was one such year. Tannehill may turn out to be a very good QB over the next ten years, but Luck is going to be the next great QB in the NFL for the next ten years. In fact I think it will soon be Indy every year that every AFC team will have to go through if they want to make it to the Super Bowl. I think the Colts will win at least 3 SB's over the next 10 years with Luck as their QB. Hopefully the Dolphins can get to and win at least one SB over that time period.
Personally I would take Wilson over Ckap, I just don't know if the majority of the GM's in the NFL would feel the same way.
Trent Dilfer loves Tannehill. He always praises him when there are discussions about the best young QBs. Always liked that Trent Dilfer.
Luck - Wilson - Tannehill - RG3 - Cam. I like Wilson over Tannehill mainly based on that playoff game vs Atlanta when he lit it up on the road. But I think Wilson this year is up against it, feeling what Tanny did last season: Targets who get little-to-no separation and an OLine that's even worse than our own right now. Should be interesting to see if that offense gets it together by the postseason. But man, really glad we have our guy. And you can bank on Luck, Wilson, and Tannehill being regulars in the playoffs for some great battles, that's for damn sure.
And yet almost every person on this board with the exception of me and a dozen other though "Suck for Luck" was dumb. What was dumb was starting 0-7 and NOT folding up shop to get the best QB prospect in a half century. Kudos Indianapolis Colt, Kudos.
I'm sure Jim Caldwell had planned on making it super easy for the guy replacing him by tanking the season.
Level the playing field. Give the rest of the pack 3 to 5 bag ladies to pass-block for them like we have.
That's a cop-out. You wouldn't have done all that research if you didn't think those stats somehow made Tanny look better.
Yeah well they also drafted Jeff George and Steve Emtman lol. They were money from 94 till 03 though. Faulk, Harrison, Wayne, Manning, Clark, Freeney, just to name a few.
Yes, rooting for your team to lose games is dumb. I don't care who we could have had. Go into the locker room and tell the players and coaches who work their *** off day in and day out that you want them to lose games and tell me how that works out for you. I understand how special Andrew Luck is, but I don't pour my heart into this team to hope they lose on game days. I don't regret that one bit.
Ro is a knowledgeable football guy and a Phin fan, RT is a 2nd year player, I seriously doubt there was any research involved. A basic understanding of the topic is all that's required. Ahem.
Yeah cause no non dolphin fan would think that an 8th overall was better better than a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Wait...what?
I would take luck and Kaep over Tanny. Russell is a toss up. I like Russell though. Kaep is doing his best after losing all of his WR options. With Manningham and Crabtree back later we'll see.
Indy was sneaky good in their strategy, it's really not hard..just have to take the proper measures..
