have seen references to the Ark being in Ethiopia on Disc Channel documentaries before. should be interesting in any case. the patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church has been meeting with Pope Benedict this week.

In Ethiopia?
How in the World has this not surfaced until now?
Should be interesting! -
I also saw a program on Discovery where it was put forth that the Ark was move/sent/taken to Ethiopia. Interesting to say the least. Of course all of this is speculation, imo, until some one actually produces the Ark. Somehow, I don't see how they could have kept it there this long without somebody making a big to do over it, or attempting to "recover" it. Well see.

It's supposed to be in a church in Axum. I happened to walk by there a few times and was tempted a few times to go in, but thought better of it.

from the show i watched, they have pretty openly claimed they have the Ark for a long time. but it is secreted away, and a replica is in every church in Ethiopia.
scholars dispute that it is indeed the Ark, or that it is even possible that they have it. there is some tidbit of written history that would make their claim to when they got it impossible to have occurred, because there is written record of it being elsewhere after the time they claim to have taken it to what is now Ethiopia, and there is no such record dating back to the time the Ethiopians claim to have had it, on their end of the equation.
i am sure those documentaruies will be resurfacing on Disc Channel in the next few weeks after tomorrow's unveiling. -

This is a remarkable annoucement. The theory is that Sheba's son (by Solomon) brought it or that priests brought it when Jerusalem was threatened.
It is not widely accepted that it is even possible yet, when the Ethiopian Jews were found last century up on a high plateau, everyone had said their existence was a myth, too. It is a strange articfact for a Christian group (Copts) to claim and yet they have claimed it since the time of their conversion in the 1st or 2nd century C.E. I am waiting to hear/see the results. -
It has been rumored for years that if it exists it would be in Ethiopia.
Fate of the Ark In contrast to the general consensus of historians (that supposes that the ark was taken away and destroyed), variant traditions about the ultimate fate of the Ark include the intentional concealing of the Ark under the Temple Mount, the removal of the Ark from Jerusalem in advance of the Babylonians (this variant usually ends up with the Ark in Ethiopia), the removal of the Ark by the Ethiopian prince Menelik I (purported son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba), removal by Jewish priests during the reign of Manasseh, and the miraculous removal of the Ark by divine intervention (C.f. 2 Chronicles).mullingan and Ohiophinphan like this. -
IMO if it still exists it would probably looks something like this .....probably a lot smaller.A wooden box made out of acacia wood.
A box with sacred relics in it.If it were made of gold as it often has been represented it would have been melted down and destroyed a long time ago IMO. -
I am looking forward to seeing pictures of it.

Well did he unveil the Ark? I am assuming he did not, if he had it would have been huge news around the world. In a way I really hoped he would. Perhaps it would be the start of a renewal of Christian values in America and throughout the world.

I think the "dog" is supposed to be the Egyptian god Anubis. The Ark would have two winged Seraphim on it. No one is sure what a Seraphim looks like but I think a dog unlikely!azfinfanmang likes this. -

I can't vouch for 'ethiopianreview.com' as a source, but it's on topic.
I was also surprised to see a post earlier stating something similar to this unveiling prompting a rebirth of Christian values... since this is a religious forum I'll bite -- surely this would at best create a rebirth of Judeo-Christian values? It's something both traditions have in common, certainly, though myself I'd see it more on the Jewish tradition side.
Then again, something I've always respected about that tradition is a willingness to debate and discuss the point, so maybe not much would change...Celtkin and Ohiophinphan like this. -
