Hot-friggin-damn that's exciting to see.
-
I'm beginning to suspect we will open the season with Koa Misi as the Will and Ike Francis as the Sam, with Cam Wake seeing heavy rotation into games as a hand on the ground DE.
That would give the OLB/DE corps the best of both worlds, good run stopping ability, athleticism without missing a pass rush as I also suspect the Dline will be asked to penetrate more than read and react.dolfan7171 and Bpk like this. -
Nice article Cobrajet, I feel that Koa Misi will be the silent hero of this team.

Excellent read, thanks for the link. Nolan's aggressive style of D and exotic blitz packages are what I believe will make up for the loss of Porter and Jason Who?, really expecting Cam Wake to step up his game this season ala Dumerville.

great now we will hear the argument that this is an offensive driven league and we are too loaded on defense
-
Broncos don't have the team speed on defense we have now, Dawkins and Jones didn't make many mistakes, but they also had little speed to go inside out with, Clemons and YBell can run really well as well as Dansby and Misi etc. -
I just hope this means our defense is doing really well, and not that our offense is struggling...
-
-
Which is most likely exactly what you will see a lot. -
It really is creative FN, though the NFL knows it, the key then becomes the quality of players in the scheme. -
3RD & 8
Chargers Personnel - 4 WR's (3x1), Singleback.
LE (Dumervil) - wide open five technique with hand in dirt. Lined up wider than typical 5.
NT - 1 technique.
RE - 3 technique.
WOLB - 5 technique.
From the power point; Key the weak side end.

Yea, its really just a widened 5 tech.
I know Nolan ran a lot of 2-4 fronts in Denver last year, but I think we might see a lot more 30 stack from him this year. He has a lot more to work with a long the DL. -
Standing up? Eh. Still not thrilled about that. I dont want him inside the Tackles... keep him on the edge... -
For me:
Wake
Grant
Starks
Odrick?
And I have seen Dumervil lined up tight to the NT at times. -
-
And I'd like to see Ikaika or McCoy in that role as well, Chris McCoy has a good burst, so does Ike, but Francis has enough size that a push from a G should not knock him off his rush...
I watched the Browns destroy the Steelers using Roth on stunts into the middle of the Oline..the Steelers Center could not block him he just destroyed the G/C/G box. -
Are you guys talking about putting Wake at the right 3tech in that picture? Or the wide end on the right in the 5/7tech? If you're talking about the wide end at the 5/7tech... great. If you are talking about him playing more inside... absolutely not. -
6'5 265 OLB's who can play anywhere on Dline (short term) and OLB, are hard to find.
I could be wrong, but don't the Colts tend to use 270ish pd DT's at times?
That is a part of the reason why I'm psyched on Akaika..he would allow Misi to play anywhere in those situations, he can drop back into coverage, or put a hand on the ground and bump Ike over to DT in a 5 man Dline. -
-
We have what 5 Dlinemen that could easily start for most NFL teams? -
Wake might have his hand on the ground in obvious passing situations as a DE. That's it.
We will see many different looks....3-4, 4DL nickel, 3DL nickel, 2-4-5, etc.
But it will be mainly 3-4. And I have a feeling Wake will play the left side most of the time and Misi the right side.
I think it will turn out to be a very surprising tandem.
Went to the scrimmage on Saturday and both are really good.
Misi is a steal.
