Actually, one was a roll out pass where Moore decided to run the ball and got 2 yards. It was 3rd and 7.

 

There is no plausible explanation for this IMO. Nothing has changed this year. 3-7, playing for literally nothing at all (let's not kid ourselves with false playoff hope), and we don't even have the cajones to go for the throat and ruin Dallas' season. Sparano & Co has had its tail between its legs since day one and it won't be any different until fist pumper is gone. I'm also confused as to why we didn't go for a 2 point conversion earlier in the game too.

 

Technically 3 yards, and if there was some execution we wouldn't be having this conversation. I do not get why people are calling one run and two passes conservative.

 

Im not sure whats worse... the fact you thought the phins had turned the corner after playing KC, Washington, and Buffalo and winning three straight... or the fact you thought Tony would actually have this team ready to beat a decent team.

Its plain and simple. Sparano has to go. IMO we have the talent at most positions. It's execution and coaching that hurts us.... Sparano, and this staff need to go... I actually think though, Nolan iss good where he is.... Dabol may not be bad, some iffy calls tonight, but not bad all around... but Sparano... has this team in the lockerroom... sure... but on the field, just has no clue.

It was Moore throwing balls behind his receivers all day while Daboll ran the only running play he seems to know: up the middle. We seemed to forget all about any running play more complex that that.

Our offensive line has serious mobIlity problems and cannot create any space for a back. That's why Ronnie used to dance: nowhere to go. This team simply cannot run on any defense with a good front seven, because of Ireland and Sparano's failure to put together an offensive line. We have Long, a castoff nutcase too bulky to move, a promising but still rookie center, a fat guy who has lost whatever he had, and a total loser. Moore is not quite the kind of quarterback who can put a punchless, one-dimensional team on his back and win a game consistently, especially with the pressure constantly coming from his right. He needs help from the coaches, line and running backs that he isn't getting.

You have to give Romo credit: three times that I remember, he threw completions a split second before getting killed.

 

Because everybody knew the run was coming on first down, it was a wasted play. A run straight up the gut into a wall of Dallas defenders is a completely wasted play.

 

Would a run for 6 yards have been a wasted play?

The play calling on that series was pretty consistent with what we saw all game.

Quarterback... The right side of the line... a pass rusher opposite Wake... a free safety.

 

IMO what killed us is our poor pass blocking. My guess is that those two pass attempts on that final drive were probably intended to be of the same kind that we had been successful with all day, but that the pass rush killed the opportunities. As I was watching the game, my thought was "don't be conservative, we need to take 3+ minutes off this clock at a minimum and that's going to take two or three first downs". When we went three and out, my first inclination was to blame Sparano/Daboll for being conservative, but as I calmed down I realized that other than a fade (maybe) you can't attack when any team with a decent pass rush can step it up at the end. They tried, but Moore simply didn't have the time. Sparano may be blamed for the decisions that put together this O-line, but I don't think conservative play calling was the culprit on that last drive.

 

I watched the game through the first possession of the second half and after we scored another field goal (10-9), I had to go to bed. Two and half hours of sleep makes for a cranky day. Anyhow, I didn't get to see the final quarter of the game, so I didn't see it, but there's a very basic concept some of you are forgetting.

When the clock reads 0:00, whoever has more points on the scoreboard wins the game, regardless if they have one more point or 30 more points. From what I saw of the game before going to bed, it did appear our running game was indeed having success. Reggie and Daniel were moving the ball effectively which was setting up the play action pass, so to say that running the ball was a wasted play is nonsensical. Another thing some of you are forgetting, what happens to the clock when you run the ball and are tackled inbounds? The clock keeps running, making time Dallas' enemy and our ally, much like a defender defender a receiver on the inside and the sideline defending him on the outside. Not only would Dallas have to contend with our defense (again, through the first half) which was keeping Dallas bay, they'd have to contend with the clock as well.

All you have to do is win the game, be it by 1 point or 30 points, winning is winning, but to listen to some of you, if you don't win by 30+ points, then you suck.

Now with that being said, shall we actually look objectively at the game itself?

Dallas won by a single point, which means our defense was once again able to hold a team with a lot of scoring potential in check. I was sporting a massive erection after the first interception and ejaculated after the second. God how I love demoralizing the Cowboys.

Dallas has a frightening defense. JaMarcus Ware frightens me when he rushes because he's just that damned good, not to mention that Rob Ryan is indeed his brother's brother...and his father's son, putting together defensvie packages that can really confuse an offense. Overall, I think we did a pretty good job at moving the ball against that defense. Alas it would have been alot better had we been able to score touchdowns instead of field goals, but do you blame the lack of offense, or give credit to the defense? Seeing how I have mad respect for Ware, I choose the latter.

 

Seriously. I'd like to see Wilson get some more reps. No point in not giving the young guys reps at this point, which is why I wish we had a coach around that was going to be around next season as well.

What indication had there been at any point in that game that we could gain six yards on a run up the middle? Especially when Dallas knew it was coming?

 

Overall the playcalling was not that conservative yesterday, it was actually quite nice. THAT being said, it was very conservative at the end of the 4th which is beyond me seeing as we were a 3-7 team fighting for its life and having not much to lose. Oh well, its how it is.

 

The fact is, we were ready to beat a decent team, and we have turned a corner... We are not the 0-7 team that we were. We are better then that and are showing it.

 

You seriously think that little jimmy smith is going to be play better than Sean Smith in that situation? Romo would of ate him alive, If He's in the game that really says something about our secondary, that we've been supposedly trying to build since 2009.

Like the other guy said we have A LOT more pressing needs than our 2nd corner spot.

 

Short pass by design, or short pass due to the other receivers just being covered that well?

I didn't see that series so I'm asking for an honest objective answer.

 

Well, if you didn't know that we were a less-than-mediocre team by now, perhaps you should go back and watch the games we've play for three years...

At any rate, Tony probably didn't call those plays, Daboll did. Second, There is a time for 'going for the dagger', I'm just not convinced that Daboll was completely wrong. The D was holding their own to that point. They seem to have things in hand...I probably would have made the same calls. I will say, however, that anytime you call runs up the middle with this OL, you are setting yourself up for a loss. This OL, consistently can't run the ball when it has to...something that has been going on since this regime got here. The blame goes to Sparano, but not for the play calling, but for the lack of execution and talent along the OL....

 

if this had been another QB ... this board would have been electric with criticism on poor throws and execution.

the TD to Marshall was underthrown, same with the pass to Hartline .... and throws were behind receivers all day and not due to 'placement' ....

still all in all a decent game .... and it was the same ole' - can't get the ball in the endzone except on one long lucky throw. Don't have an issue about the one missed FG -- as DAL could have tried to score a TD to win ... we just simply needed to score more than 1 TD.

Like that Moore is doing a decent job and has helped get 3 wins ... but that other guy is still better

Daboll is doing a decent job as well in finding ways to get our playmakers downfield and open .... something we made no effort to do over the previous 2 years.

 

Close doesn't count except in horseshoes and hand grenades.

 

Smith is decent along the sideline where he can use his size to an advantage ... but in nearly all other circumstances, he has been unable to stay with WRs out of any break - period.

He did show some potential in the nickel where again, he can use his size and speed against TE, RBs, etc ...

But in general his ability to stick with a WR on a 'route' is just not very good. I would say he is better suited for zone ... not man coverage

Trouble is Carroll's light certainly hasn't come on ... and Wilson is a work in progress - but very similar to Smith in terms or CB reps due to prison prior to the draft
