Falcons: Atlanta likely to draft lineman
The News
Recent discussions with members of the Atlanta Falcons' front office suggest their philosophy is to use their first pick (third overall) on a lineman, not a quarterback, according to Pro Football Weekly. Owner Arthur Blank is aware of the tremendous pressure that will be on the player who becomes known as Michael Vick's replacement, and general manager Thomas Dimitroff subscribes to the philosophy that teams are built from the inside out, starting with the lines.

In Joey Harrington, Atlanta has an example of what can happen to a quarterback who is taken early in the first round, but fails to live up to the lofty expectations.

i don't think i believe it. I still think they want Ryan. I cant see them going into the season with redman, harrington and shockley...

Yeah I understand its difficult to see those mediocre QB's start but in order to have a success at the QB position, you need blocking and Jake Long is the best linemen out there. They got rid of Wayne Gandy who was arguably their best O linemen and they need to replace him.brandon27 likes this.

I think they still go after Matt Ryan. But hey definitly need linemen If you dont have a good line you are'nt getting any where

Things are pretty divided actually. I'm in the Flacco camp myself, but a lot of people like Brohm as well. As far as the posts I've read, nobody really showed much interest in Ryan because most of us figured he'd be gone by the time we were up. The Jets flew to BC to work him out though so who the hell knows. By most accounts Ryan is considered to be the best prepared for the NFL.alen1 likes this.
