The first preseason game is always a dog. I won't even know what to look for until I know who's playing on each side. I guess I just want to see good execution from whoever is on the field. Next week will be different when most of the starters should get some time.
Honestly., hope he plays better throughout preseason.. we need a quality back up.. the good thing is, his contract is not so ridiculous that we cant keep an eye at another before the season begins.. we can probably find a backup qb after other teams continue to make their cuts.. there are many teams with qbs they wont be able to keep.. most teams want to carry 2.. if the patriots let go of zappe im all about bringing him in for a workout
Backup QB is just the worst position to deal with. We thought we signed an "ace" backup last year and he was a total dud and got arguably outplayed by a 7th round rookie. Teams like the Cowboys bring in a Cooper Rush who goes 4-0. How many games did Brock Purdy win? IMO it's just not worth worrying about. If a backup needs come in for more than partial single game action you just hope it's an easy schedule and the rest of the teams steps up. Otherwise, whatever.
I rather get matt ryan.. though i imagine Matt is waiting for an injury to happen in the nfl so that he can leverage more money
Thats a big problem considering we didnt have a starting qb for the last games of the season and playoff game
According to ESPN, Berrios and Cam Smith left the game with injuries. Were they serious, or is it a case of preseason precaution?
Yes. It's a very big problem if they want to be serious about this season. My guess would be if Tua gets injured, they'll give White/Skylar a shot while looking for an upgrade. However, I'd rather they just do that now and get that QB acclimated to the system. Mike White has been terrible his whole career, and the NFL is way too quick for Skylar. These aren't serious backup options.
Quarterback play last night wasn’t that great at all. Granted, they weren’t playing with the starting lineup but then again, they weren’t playing AGAINST the starting line up either. White looked pretty good on the first series, moving the ball pretty well until the goal line interception. After that… I expected a little more from Thompson with this being his 2nd season under this offense and with the number of games he started last season. I was pleased with Achane, Ezukanma and surprisingly Gaskin. LG is still up for grabs. Can’t say I was impressed with Wynn. Or Eichenburgh last night. OL is still going to be our Achilles heel. Thanks Grier. I was hopeful for more from the defense. I can definitely see why Fangio says he’s still looking for players to play his defense. Next game against Houston. Dress rehearsal for the starters. Just keep in mind, this is PRESEASON…doesn’t mean much of anything
After watching this play I have to conclude that either our roster is down to 89 by Monday morning or McDaniel is guilty of malpractice.
Skylar Thompson is awful in general, but especially for this offense. The whole thing is predicated on quick reads and getting the ball out on time. Dude processes a play the way Mike Tyson processes an aptitude test. Not to mention his athleticism is wildly overrated/non existent. His arm strength is well below average too. There is nothing of substance here. With the new Emergency QB rule this year every single team will carry 3 QB’s. So we need to replace Thompson yesterday. It is borderline negligence we didn’t have a 4th QB in camp all along to compete for a job. Every single position has competition. But none at QB ? Makes no sense. Many teams have 4 QB’s in camp. Higgins looked alright. Gaskin had some juice. Hopefully Berrios’ injury is nothing serious. Weird Feeney got to sit out as a healthy scratch… Defense was generally strong.
The offense moved the ball but poor decisions in the red zone were key. Both QB’s looked like they were a 1/2 to a full second late on throws. Guys were open if the ball would have been out on time. It’s really hard to tell with a mixture of guys not having as much cohesiveness. Archane is fast.
In contrast I watched the Chargers game and they executed very crisply. The QB play was more efficient. On both sides of the ball.
Most of the available QBs that would be obvious upgrades for Skylar probably don't want to come in and be the #3.
INT supposedly hit receiver in the hip. Not sure why we call a play with 3 WR's almost in the same spot. Second one White was hit while throwing thus ball was behind. 3rd one ball was tipped by unblocked DE.
Elijah Higgins could end up being a very nice pick-up for Miami. Hope he continues to see action during the pre-season and shows signs of progress.
