Even if it ends up being true, I doubt anything is done before the draft.
Unless JT signs the most minimum of deals and the Trifecta just can't pass it up, there's no point in signing a 35 yr old vet that doesn't seem to want to be in the offseason program and is on the downside of his career should you land a decent rookie. -
It has to happen before the draft, Parcells would want JT in the offseason training program.
-
Who is this Jason Taylor guy? Should we sign him?
A 35 year old DE who had only 3.5 sacks last year and was injured most of the time?
:shifty:jupiterfin likes this. -
BUT thats the issue here isn't it?
Taylor I am pretty sure wants to SKIP that program and Parcells wont commit to a player that will miss it outright.
The only way to make it seem like no one is getting shafted is to wait until after the draft so that way if he misses some of the program it doesn't look like he's openly defying you and if you get someone through the draft then your not commited to him anyway so he just signs somewhere else. -
Taylor has publicly said he is willing to join the program and the Miami Dolphins.

OK, I saw that article too but what I am reading is the reporter saying that "he said". Where's JT's quote on it?
I am not asking you per say, but in general. The guy has not been quoted as saying that he will show up and grind it out. Its like we are taking the reporters interpretation here.
Another thing is that the reporter said "he said" he'd be 'willing' not commited or certain...almost leaving an opening there for something along the lines as so long as it benefits ME sure I'll go ahead and think about showing up.
Heck, I'd be willing to move up to Seattle right now, I love it up there. Can't do it right now though, but I'd be willing if the right opportunity with the right incentives came around.
Don't mean to sound like I am giving you a hard time about this, and maybe I am reading too much into it after last season, but I dont see him agreeing to anything unless its something around July-August.
I hope I am wrong and he does really commit but I dont see it happening, sadly.
EDIT: One other thing I found a little weird...maybe...when he says "with a team other than the Dolphins" ...Whats he saying? that he'd be 'willing' to attend some workouts with another team but not us? Again, I am not really getting the reporters interpretation of what was said there. I'd like for him to have put JT's own words there and not a "he said".miamiron likes this. -
guys JTs problem with the offseason program with the Redskins wasn't that he doesn't want to do it... its that he didn't want to be away from his family... if hes in Miami he can do the offseason program and still be with his family...
it wasn't about him not wanting to do the work... if we signed him, hed be in the programHULKFish likes this. -
There are quotes and videos (interviews) from this weekend where JT says he's ready to go and ready to start working out.

There is a lot of momentum that would lead you to believe that this may happen but I question the timing .
At the top of my head here are some of the reasons I can think of.You can add your own if you want.
1/The Players want him back.
2/JT would like to play here .
3/JT is willing to put in the work and he would like to play for Sparano
3/He is Ross favorite player
4/Apparently there are no hard feelings between JT and Parcells. In fact they are scheduled to play golf together this week .
5/We need pass rushers and signing JT would reduce the need to draft one with
our first pick. There are some very good ones available in the second round.
We can then use our first pick on a WR or CBDolphan4life, HugeFinFan, DaFish and 11 others like this. -
Just to add to Crunch's point #4, there was the quote from JT over the weekend about Sparano.

But JT will want to be paid well where ever he ends up, that could be the sticking point. -
it would be so badass if he came back

i mean...**** like that doesn't happen enough in the NFL...he needs to end his career here with the dolphins

Taylor sign with Miami = all is forgiven.
Taylor sign with New England = go to hell JT.
Taylor signs with anyone else = who cares.HugeFinFan, tinytown50, DaFish and 13 others like this. -
As I understand it, JT told them at the end of the season that, after essentially a year on the road, he would be skipping voluntary workouts and instead working out in South Florida and being with his family.
However, he also wanted out because they were misusing him and he thereby wasn't earning his paycheck. A skinny 235-pounder as your strongside DE? Cmon.
OT: it makes you wonder how (not) smart some of these football people are. I mean, many of us here were panning the trade immediately thereafter because the Redskins announced they would move JT to left end. Ridiculous that career football people thought this was a good idea.
Come back to Miami, JT. Where the people in charge know their *** from their elbow.dolfan22, dolphindebby, HULKFish and 4 others like this. -
Yeah they'll definitely sign a contract without discussing what's expected in the offseason program. Back here in the real world I'm sure both sides will discuss these things at length before any deal is made.
Taylor would not demand a large contract and the Dolphins can use all the pass rushing help they can get. Its a win win situation. -
I read somewhere recently (I forget where) something to the effect that Taylor being released by Washington had to do not only with his not wanting to commit to their offseason conditioning program, but also his telling Snyder, and I'm paraphrasing, that he felt like he was stealing from them. That, after his injury plagued and lackluster (at least from a a stats standpoint) season, that he wanted to be released. Add to that Washington being in salary cap hell, and the signing of Haynesworth and Hall for a combined $156mil (what idiots!), and Snyder granted his wish.
My point is if there's any credibility to the story, then that tells you money is not Taylor's main motivation at this point in his career. That said, my gut is that if they can come to terms (and I'm guessing it would be some sort of an incentive laden contract), that a deal will get done. Taylor has to see things differently now that the team went 11-5 last season and won the AFCE without him. Maybe he thinks he can get a ring in Miami? And, if not this season, then possibly in '10.
And, look at it from Parcells standpoint...he in essence brings back one of our best defensive players, with a better attitude, and potentially at a home team discount for a couple more years. Taylor in turns busts his hump to not only show he's worth it, but to try and get his ring, all the while mentoring a new DLine/defenseive group. Add to that that Parcells keeps Bellicheat from getting his grubby little hands on him, and it's a win/win/win situation for Parcells, Taylor and Miami fans alike. -
BTW, this should surprise no one:

Jason Taylor-DL - Redskins Mar. 30 - 9:39 am et
Jason Taylor said Sunday that his relationship with the Redskins ended prematurely because he didn't feel like he was earning his $8.5 million salary. It was widely reported that Taylor's unwillingness to participate in offseason voluntary workouts led to the departure. Taylor said, however, that he told owner Daniel Synder "point blank" that he didn't want to "steal from him" while not producing.

I think Jason Taylor resigns with Miami. -
And JT looks foolish the more he speaks about leaving DC G-man, he really should just let it die and not try to don a halo for being released.
JT has earned some chops he has to say something that takes the edge off being released, but the martyr complex is a bit much. -
-
-
And, while he may in fact already have a deal in place, who's to say it's not with Miami? And he's just playing Kraft. :tongue2:
Time will tell.
Peace...out! -
Man, JT is 35 and coming off a calf injury, Tom Brady is 31 and coming off a major knee injury, I could just see a hobbling JT trying to sack a limping Tom Brady, it would look like Senior Citizen Football.

Let's all sit back and see what develops here. I'd prefer Jason back even at 35, because he would still be better than what we had this year if he was not cast as the LDE all by his lonesome and put back on the right side or cast as the LOLB and turned loose along with Porter on 3rd and long.

I don't know what's better, having JT back, or seeing the faces of Redskins' fans during the 44th pick.

Crowder Says JT wants to be a Dolphin
-
He asked for the trade to go to a better team and that failed lets not go back on the values of this NEW team
BIGGER,STRONGER,FASTER,AND YOUNGER!!!!
We don't need JT to come in we need our younger players to get reps and experience so that they can become better players not have there reps cut short because a 35 year old who will not be on this team when we make a competitive push for the super bowl.
Lets not live in the past......PLEASE -
New JT info as of 10:30 PM 4/1/2009 No April Fools
This is great info to see!
It would help make some decisions easier for the draft possibly. Would rather have someone that can teach and mentor other players than get a newbie.
Jason Taylor-DL-Redskins Apr. 1 - 9:52 pm et
Channing Crowder told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that he knows free agent Jason Taylor "wants to be a Dolphin."
"I went fishing with J.T. two weeks ago," Crowder said. "I would love to have J.T. back." Taylor is expected to decide between returning to Miami or signing with New England. He has hinted that he doesn't want to be a Patriot.

Well regardless of how he left I have to give him respect for showing some loyalty for the team and fans that made him what he is (he could have already jumped ship for NE).
I'm interested to see how this turns out.DOLPHAN1 likes this. -

I suspect he simply wants some sense of a legacy, and right about now, getting the one he left derailed here last year, back on track, may very well represent his single best opportunity.
I doubt he considers NE a viable option, having probably received more that enough flak from Zack alone to drop that idea, in fact if he hasn't yet dropped to his hands and knees to beg Miami to take him back, he's likely made himself so available, it would be foolish for them not to.
