I'm not sure why that would be headline worthy, but good on yah' Jeff! He handled that with class.

Sean is definitely an *******.
Plus, he's begging for attention by calling into the radio station in the first place.TotoreMexico, Pandarilla, dolfan7171 and 5 others like this. -

I get that maybe the fan was a jerk, but a general manager of a football team can't get invovled with nonsense with like this, if it's true.
It just looks bad for the organization. He's got to walka way, or call security, or do anything other than get into it with the guydolfan7171, Bpk, PSG and 5 others like this. -
Ireland is far from perfect, far far from perfect - but he does deserve some basic respect when you meet him in person for crying out loud. This is the same type of guy who will bash a player on twitter. It's just uncalled for.
It's all a big soap opera anyways - for dudes. Ireland is just a character in the show. You can criticize his picks, even say something to him if you find you have his ear, but telling him to go fire himself? Uncalled for. Tell him you weren't happy w/ the Marshall or Vontae trade, or the fact that he didn't fix the WR position, but do it respectfully if you're actually talking to the guy, sheesh. He is a human being after all. -

I think it's pretty funny but overall not a big deal obviously.

this should be a non-story... but the Dolphins whiners who need to cry about every time Ireland takes a **** will feed off of it... now the whiners will swarm
-
Well, if he's not held accountable by the owner, why not?
-
I wish this was on vid. That's pretty funny.

I hope people realize there is a 95% chance this didn't even actually happen.

That's not walking away, that's inviting further confrontation. Who knows if the fan was drunk or high or anything else and the situation could have escalated. -
The story does not end there. After Sean's call to EReed and Ethan Skolnick another fan called in and said that many fans were heckling Jeff Ireland to the point where a fed up Ireland turned and said: "Keep this up and I'll have all of you kicked out of the stadium." He even suggested that Ireland got in one of the fan's faces and that a fight nearly broke out. This sounds like piling on to me. I'm not buying any of it no matter how credible Ethan and EReed thought Sean's story was.
-
Apparently this dude "Sean" (or "Shawn"...who knows) wasn't the first person to call in about this. A bunch of fans witnessed it and started calling into the show describing it, so eventually "Sean" also called in to say what happened.
Some other fans say that afterward some other fans followed him a little and chanted "Fireland" and that Ireland threatened to have them kicked out of the stadium. If that's true, that's the thing I don't like at all. I have no problem with a season ticket holder seeing Jeff Ireland in The Club and making his displeasure known, and this "Sean" guy says he didn't just suggest Ireland fire himself, he actually came up to him and talked to him and told him he wasn't happy with where the team is going and he even listed some moves he disagreed with. He kind of finished off with the you should fire yourself thing. I guess some would see that as heckling, rude, unnecessary, whatever...but the fans are being sold a product and I don't have a problem with them giving feedback on that product. But if it's true there were fans crowding and chanting Fireland behind Jeff as he was leaving...I mean that's just gang heckling and I don't think that's very cool.Bpk, RevRick, unluckyluciano and 4 others like this. -

The way it has been relayed to me, other fans called first and described the incident with "Sean" and then "Sean" himself called. Ethan thinks that makes Sean's story credible and quite honestly, so do I.
The other part after where fans started calling in talking about chanting and Ireland telling people he'll kick them out, nearly getting into a fight...that **** sounds like piling on garbage.
But I do believe the incident with "Sean" probably happened. -
My take is this: You're a GM of an NFL franchise. A CUSTOMER is upset with the product he's paying for. He tells you so, albeit in a non-classy way. You have to be BETTER than him because again, you're the GM.
If this was at a restaurant and Ireland was with his family, he'd be totally justified in calling this guy an ******* to his face. That's bad form. But this was at the stadium, during a game. You handle your business and be the better person, whether you're in the right or not. It's not even that big of deal on it's own, but I can GUARANTEE you Ross and Mike Dee can't be thrilled with this if it's true.Bpk, finyank13 and schmolioot like this. -

You know what Stephen Ross and Mike Dee:
-
Instead he allowed himself and his organization to look bad...again.
A GM or anybody in management just can't do that, regardless of whether the fan was a jerk. -
I do agree that the piling on isn't cool. There are better ways to go about voicing your displeasure. The fan said his piece, and that should've been the end of it.
-
-
This is hilarious to me, whether it's true or not.
I also wouldn't say "Sean" is credible just because other called in before to talk about it. It could all be part of the hoax.
Either way, LOL, but who cares? -
