I'm pretty shocked that: - Even Killzone2 didn't put the PS3 up for the month - PS2's finally stopped selling - So many people play Wii Fit - Wii Play is still considered a game - Call of Duty: World at War still sells
I've had to change my mind on this one. I broke down and bought it and I really like the online play.
I'm not too shocked about Killzone 2. How excited are people going to get about yet another shooter? Even if it is really good. MLB the Show was selling like hotcakes [at least at Gamestop and Best Buy] shortly after its launch early this month so that could possibly give it a small boost. I don't get the Wii stuff either. I noticed that Street Fighter IV sales on PS3 almost matched the sales on 360. I think that's the closest I've seen a PS3 version of a game come to outdoing the 360 version. Very impressive given that there are twice as many 360s out there.
Killzone 2 got killed by word of mouth in my opinion. I know personally I stopped two people from buying it. Sure it got great reviews but reviews are bull**** anyway. The game was overrated in my opinion. Beautiful to look at but there is more to a game than good graphics. Call of Duty is selling I think because, for all it's warts, it's a good game. The online play is the best amongst shooters in my opinion. Man, a lot of people are buying Wii considering there are no damn games for the thing.
145K Mario Kart DS - DS 144K New Super Mario Bros. - DS ridiculous. These are good games but world wide their almost over 15 million units sold for each game.
I remember seeing Halo ads and promotions everywhere before its launch. I didn't see even a commercial for Killzone until a couple of days after launch. They just didn't push it hard enough. That's become the norm for good Playstation exclusives. Nobody buys them because they don't know about them. Plus Halo was an already established franchise. I mean the game was the only thing that moved any Xboxes at all last generation.
Dang it, I thought it was out before that ... I actully enjoyed the Excite Truck game, I might be the only one ... but I thought it was actually pretty well done.
I saw tons of killzone 2 advertisements, from TV to Interweb to Magazines, I can't wait to see how the sales change when the DSi comes out for nintendo.
I can't believe though that they were anywhere in the neighborhood of Halo 3. Stores were doing Halo themed promotions, everytime you turned on the television it was there. I can't recall the last game I've seen pushed so hard. It was even talked about on the radio where I was at. Those DS sales are going to continue to climb. I own one and like it a lot. Nintendo obviously has things figured out. They must be laughing hysterically at Sony and Microsoft. Their games and systems cost much less to make I'm sure and are selling so many more.
I'm honestly worried that the next batch of systems from Sony and MS will be more like the wii than like their current systems.
this could have mixed results though. I don't honestly think we need to see Sony or MS build a stronger system then what we have. The ps3 and 360 are capable of showing us amazing graphics and beefing them up at this point isn't really gonna change much. There are plenty of rumors going around about MS and Sony working on motion controllers and even motion cameras, so i have no doubt that at least one of them will unveil something along those lines with their next system. But whether or not developers embrace it will be key. One of the biggest complaints for the wii is a terrible online system. Something both ps3 and 360 have. combine that with their obvious advantage with hdd space and MS and sony could completely steal the whole idea. But then again, they won't have the name "Wii" at that point.
Sony and MS still have a while before they could feasibly abandon their current consoles. Especially Sony who likes to boast the ten year life cycle thing. By the time they could even really steal the idea the Wii may be dug in too firmly.
I already think the Wii is too well known a machine for Sony and MS to rip off of, but more importantly, by the time Sony and MS go to make another system, people may have finally abandoned the wii.
My ps3 was affordable, and it is reliable. Aside from that I prefer to get significant use out of my systems, and the wii is bar none the furthest behind of all mine so far.
Truth. but, if Nintendo doesn't catch up with MS and Sony as far as online interactivity next gen, i will be severely annoyed. The next Super Smash Bros. , specifically, needs flawless online.
All i'll say about the Wiis library is this, anyone who plans on buying God of War 3 better play madworld. (if you have the opportunity).
I don't think Killzone 2 its overrated one bit. I think it is the best shooter on any console this generation. My PS3 is very reliable and I would pay 400 bucks for it again if I had to. I would love for Sony and Microsoft to take a page from Nintendo and have Lame graphics, Kid games galore, and horrible graphics.
You seriously believe that?? I'm going strictly off the demo so don't bite my head off... But I think CoD4 is easily a better shooter.
I seriously think that. The demo is ok compared to the rest of the game. Plus the online is fantastic. You should rent it and if it still isn't for you than thats just the way is. I definitely think its better than COD4.
Single player is slightly better than the COD4 story which itself was awesome IMO. I haven't played K2 online, but I loved COD4 online, so if it even close to that it has to be awesome.
tis true. Im playing GTA: Chinatown Wars DS right now and i can say without hesitation, it is the best handheld GTA ever made. Graphically speaking it isn't as pretty as either of the psp games, but the style reminds me more of the original GTA games on psx. yet I can't even count the amount of people who just looked at one or two screen shots and deemed it crap.
I meant to say online on the last item. The graphics aren't horrible but they ned to get a better online system. Friend codes are not viable at this stage in online gaming. I'm not looking for realistic graphics but they certainly can be better in most cases. Maybe to the degree of Galaxy. Madworld also looks fantastic.
My real problem with the Wii is, besides the system itself being creative, the games on the system are not, they are mostly remakes (like Punchout "oh yay"). There might be one big new game a year on the Wii but it really doesn't have any games that sell the system (like the 360 has and the PS3 to a lesser extent). Obviously the Wii sells on the system alone but creatively their games are lacking.
Wii Fit is selling the system these days I think. I think Wii Fit is kind of silly but people sure are buying it. I saw a guy with two of them leaving Best Buy the other day.
For the price of the Wii Fit, you might as well get a gym membership and do some actual workouts or actually jog/workout for free at home.
Yeah I think it's silly too. But obviously a good way to make some money. I guess a lot of people think they should pay for an electric pad to weigh them and tell them to do pushups.
honestly, for the people who actually use it, it's entirely a mental thing. I think it's safe to say that lot of people in this world are not self motivated, and simply need something or someone to tell them when to do things. Wii Fit provides that. It's not the hardest workout or the best, but if you use the wii fit on a daily basis, everytime you pass your wii, you think about how you should workout or at least obey some sort of diet. It has many flaws, but Nintendo should be awarded for trying to help people, even in the smallest way.
Never "played" Wii Fit before? I tried it 2 times at my neighbor's (ironically with the very same Wii console I sold him) and frankly, I'd have a better time and better workout shooting hoops outside instead. Nice picture but ultimately unusable in this case. But I can come with a picture for you here: A doctor who enters the field just so he/she can be thanked for doing his/her job is becoming one for all the wrong reasons. Believe me, medical schools look down heavily on that. A doctor who saves a life pro bono, contributes to the advancement of medical research (unpaid outside of other clinical duties), or helps someone at risk to his own employment deserves significantly more recognition.
I get your point but honestly what new franchise has Nintendo created this generation? Such as MS creating Gears or Sony - Resistance. Nintendo has done nothing even close.
