http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/final-fantasy-versus-xiii-on-hold/ Guess they need to get FF13 out.
damn... i didn't even consider that. I'm guessing that they're getting a little flak from Sony on meeting a certain release target. There's probably some serious money (direct or assisting in advertisements) involved with Sony to make it a PS3 exclusive. I think FF13 is the next huge release now that MGS4 came out. Sony wants it out ASAP. I'm just speculating of course.
That's probably the case, but we all know what happens when developers rush their product to market. Any way you look at it, it's no good for US (the gamers).
Socom (September) & Resistance 2 (November) will be huge titles for Sony. I'm sure now that MGS4 has shifted quite a few people over temporarily, Sony is going to make a push to keep those people over permanently. My guess is that they want a Final Fantasy no later than Q1 2009.
Or they realized that Final Fantasy XIII is their money maker and Versus is a gamble, so they are putting all their effort on the one that will sell at least 3 million copies on name alone.
This is the antithesis of rushing a game. Rushing is when you cut content to meet a hard release date; what Square-Enix is doing is adding staff to the project to make sure it's done right, rather than done quickly.
Agreed. Socom and Resistance 2 (and Little Big Planet) are huge releases for Sony. But I mean system sellers that people get in line for (MGS4, Halo, WoW).
I can wait for Versus, as long as FFXIII isnt pushed back any farther, I like the concept it brings of a darker Final Fantasy.
You're probably right but i know many people who are holding off for Socom to come before they buy a PS3 and will be there on Sept 16 with bells on to buy the game and system.
Square-Enix came out to tell everyone that yesterday's reports of FFv13 being on hold is fubar... http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/square-enix-final-fantasy-versus-xiii-not-on-hold/
