Just when the Miami Dolphins' wacky week seemed to be nearing a conclusion, there's one more piece of meat to digest before the weekend: Earlier this week, team owner Stephen Ross scheduled a meeting for Friday with former NFL coach Eric Mangini, the Miami Herald has learned from sources independent of the team.

Dolphins sources insist the intent of the meeting was not to interview Mangini for the team's head-coaching position, but instead to pick his brain as a ``consultant'' who has ``knowledge of the division.''

As of Thursday night, after Ross had departed from California for South Florida, the meeting had not yet been canceled. Ross arrived in Fort Lauderdale at 2 a.m. Friday after spending the day in California.

The meeting has since been canceled, team sources said.

Ya, they weren't looking to interview him, just consulted with him due to his knowledge of the division. Little weird, but whatever.

Bowles going to Dallas, we need a new DB coach as well, and his Browns did blowout the Patriots this yr so why wouldn't they chat with him on the "vision" for the franchise?

Padre, he sucks as a head coach. Don't even try to be contrarian here. He sucked with the Jets, he sucked with the Browns and he probably sucks at vacuuming.

I don't give a crap if the Browns beat the Patriots or not. Dumb luck should not be rewarded.

Well, I will say he is a better option than Sparano, just way out of LF...

Ross must love him some Jeff Ireland thats for sure.

Not for HC..not a chance, he was good at some things and it would be worth it to chat with him and hire him as a positional coach.

He's not going to accept a positional coaching job this soon.....way too early for him to just surrender, he would be a fine DC for someone...just not Miami.

He doesnt "suck" as a HC. He did good job in NY, he had Favre forced down his throat and then he was fired when Favre got injured and the team imploded. As for Cleveland, I don't think any coach could've gotten much more out of that team.

IMO Mangini is a good coach, not a players coach at all, but a good X & O guy. Yeah he's been fired twice, Belichek was fired once and a quit another time before he hit NE. Just sayin.

Mangini is a sharp guy and at times guys such as him will take a positional coach job to let some of the failure stank to wash off of their resumes, for example for all of the love Mike Nolan is getting, he was considered so hated in the Redskins Organization that Snyder put a gallon of Vanilla Ice Cream on his desk, for his "vanilla defenses" and it melted and ran all over the place.

    Oops

Nolan then tucked away in with the Tuna Jets at DC for a yr, then hid away on the Ravens staff as a WR coach, then DefCord, then to SF where he went maybe 15-33

    Oops

Then off to Denver, then to us.

That is how it works, friend of a friend likes the job so and so did somewhere, they hire them at a small position, they work their way up, hired somewhere else etc etc.

I honestly would prefer a change at this point then to keep Sparano.
If it's Mangini, then I'm okay with it, but I would prefer these in this order--

    1-Chin (Cowher)
    2-*** (Gruden)
    3-Dick (Harbough)
    4-Brain (Nolan)
    5-Vagina (Manginia)

I am so exhausted trying to figure out this owner / organization I am almost emphatic. It wouldn't shock me if I saw the headlines in the morning that Ross had moved the team to Tokyo. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we are all tired beyond tired of this non-winning drama.
