I just read this on PFT. I was a little concerned that they would have difficulty coming to terms with him because of the role he will play. Is he QB, Wild Pat, WR or jack of all trades? Below is the link. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/07/31/fins-pat-white-haggle-over-incentives/
Nice hooserdaddy, we are a bit ahead of PFT though: http://forums.thephins.com/showthread.php?t=34392&highlight=pat+white+contract Sad that it did break down that way though, White "I'm a Qb" was treated like a Qb and expects a contract that includes Qb incentives.
From the article: It's a tough sell though, even if scores 8 Td's passing and running, how much more would they be worth then say a Wr taken in the same position?
The difference could be 50 to 100 thousand dollars though. he could have a year where he does a decent amount of things running or recieving, however since he didn't do as many QB things he is out of some cash. I can see their point.
Just get it done Jeff, we want to see this kid running the WC, and he needs a full TC taking snaps under Center.
I can see White's point of view on this. He won't be holding the clipboard for the entire season. This is the only thing that White has to stand on. It's pretty obvious that they don't see him as the starting QB at some point, as they do/did with Henne's negotiations, yet he should be compensated for the additional p/t that he'll get over say, a Henne or any other b/u QB in the league...I'm anxious to see him int he WC, but doubt we'll see much of that thru most of TC...they will want to unveil different aspects of his talent each week as games go on, a lot like they did with different phases of our offense last season. It'll certainly make the games interesting....but first, the young man needs to be in camp...so White, you give a little and Jeff you give a little and lets get this thing on....
Why can't it just be based upon TOTAL touchdowns/yardage instead of passing/running/receiving specific? I know a lot about the game but I'm not a contract expert.
give him a MIL bonus if he can tackle the WC and lead it successfully ... all the other incentives don't really matter much ... IF he can lead the WC successfully, it will have an effect on the overall teams success over the next few years ....
From WTRF 7 Ohio.... MIAMI -- Former WVU quarterback Pat White has reportedly signed with the team that drafted him 44th in April's NFL Draft. An NFL source told The Palm Beach Post White and the Miami Dolphins agreed on a four-year, $4.5 million deal. White will reportedly receive $2.5 million in guaranteed money. Dolphins camp opens Sunday. Head Coach Tony Sparano says White will compete with former Marshall quarterback Chad Pennington and Chad Henne for snaps.
I never knew Coach to lie like that. Pat is only getting on the field to run the WC and the 3rd team Off. I like Coach when he says compete...compete for what? The starting job?
he will be a starter White was drafted to captain the WildCat & that's exactly what he'll do to the degree he improves the system his stock will rise
