http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp.../nose-tackle-search-could-focus-on-owens.html "The Dolphins' need at nose tackle is clear to anyone with eyes but while much of the attention has centered around bigger-name prospects such as Dan Williams and Cam Thomas, a source tells me the Dolphins are looking in a different direction. Think Jeff Owens of Georgia."
this is the 4th and last NT prospect I see as a possible fit for us. And he could be had no higher than a 4th and possibly as low as a 6th. What would be great is if we like what we see in him (and I think he could be good) is it would free up our first two rounds to go after other positions. Right now we have to spend eiother a 1st or 2nd round draft pick on a NT (wILLIAMS, tHOMAS OR cODY) If we decide Owens is our guy then we can spend the first two picks on a linebacker and some other position. if not its NT and LB first two rounds.
Good old Armando. Only 7 weeks later than we ran with it in the Sentinel with quotes from Jeff himself during a conversation with me.
Sound like a good use of the fourth round pick, but you'd have to give him at least a year to develop before you expect him to play NT at a decent level. Drafting him won't solve the NT issue for this year, unless the FO thinks we can get by with Paul until Ferguson comes back? Maybe. Or maybe they run more 4-3 looks until the second half of the season?
I fully expect us to go NT on the third day and no sooner unless incredible value presents itself to us, and this plays right into that.
who do you see miami going after in the first 2 rounds? I think round 1 has Spiller, Bryant, Graham, Thomas, and Odrick written all over it but starting to think Odrick and Thomas are falling out and its one of those 3 guys i named first with a guy likes Hughes as a dark horse.
Spiller makes no sense what so ever considering our needs. Bryant and Graham would fill needs. Don't know much about Odrick. Why would you say that Thomas is falling out? The guy is the best player at his position and it is a HUGE need for us (yes, I like Thomas better then Berry) Huges would be a good pick in the 20's early 2nd round.
Spiller if Brown is traded. Ricky is retiring next year. Brown won't get a new contract. At 12 you don't wnat to go strictly need, you want to incorporate BPA with the need. Thomas because I see Miami going for a FS in round 2-3 not in round 1 for some reason (I love Thomas). Hughes I don't see lasting to #43.
I really like Owens and or Atkins, imho our nickel rush line needs a DT who can penetrate along with Starks, imho either one can do that for us. Come to think of it, if we lose both JT along with JT, we will need a DE who can also play across from Wake in that situation.
I happened to catch Owens being interviewed on a Atlanta sports station last evening and he mentioned something about being asked about a knee issue by NFL evaluators, does anyone know what that was about?
Not really. Right now we have our starter in Paul SOliai. What we really need is his backup that can give him breathers here and there until Ferguson is off of his suspension. So a rookie like Owens should be fine with a few snaps while he develops. And if he impresses, then good, we may have some comp for Soliai.
