 It's a mobile ad driven in the form of a truck. I'm sure we've all seen those. This will be interesting... I doubt they'll actually get into the parking lot at the stadium when we play the Bills. Wonder if the police will be called.

I'm assuming you've been to the stadium. The truck likely will not be going into any of the lots, but it doesn't really need to. The way traffic is it'll just be slowly circulating around the stadium and be seen by tens of thousands of people either driving or crossing the street from the pay lots to the stadium.

Will probably be seen by more people than the air banner was to be honest.

Honest opinion, they might be going a little far with this. I dunno. Can't decide.

I hope even people who support firing Ireland realize how stupid this is.

Not to mention the dubious Dolphins history of trying to get people fired through plane banners.

As long as they pay to enter the parking lot, shouldn't be a problem.

since the parking fee ultimately goes to the Dolphins, isn't this like paying the Dolphins to fire Ireland?

If I thought it would do any good. I would pay for the entire banner. Unfortunately I don't think Ross has any idea what he is doing and therefore he will retain Ireland because of his complete incompetence as an NFL owner.

The guy actually paying for the mobile billboard had better be careful. I think it would at the very least be an interesting academic question whether Jeff Ireland would have a legal case against him if he did actually end up fired...some kind of harrassment claim that resulted in financially measurable damages. Would be tough to prove anything in court, but I'm not sure it would be a non-starter either. Again, interesting question.

Just the law suit can ruin the guy's life financially. Jeff has the money for lawyers. To properly represent himself as s defendant, he has to spend lots of money on a defense lawyer. If he doesn't, Ireland wins the case and sues for damages, likely resulting in the defendant filing for bankruptcy.

BUT, Ireland won't do that. It will dissuade other organizations from hiring him IMO. He has enough bad PR.

    No chance.

Free speech plus Ireland is a public figure, so any suit for defamation would be enarly impossible. Plus he'd have to prove that his firing was due to a billboard rather than his performance.

And good luck with that one Jeffy. Although I guess Shou and Disgustipate could be witnesses for him with the objective analysis that they are always talking about which proves his relative competence compared to other gMs.

I don't know if he is, but I am, and I agree it's most likely not actionable defamation.

Tortious interference with a contract or intentional infliction of mental distress might hit closer to the mark, but off the cuff, I don't think all the elements are there either.

Besides, instead of suing, Jeff will just spray paint A**HOLE on the truck....

I wasn't thinking along the lines of defamation though. I was thinking along the lines of harrassment which may contribute to a negative financial outcome.

I mean I'm just trying to put this into real terms. If someone starts hanging around your place of work holding up signs demanding that you're fired and then you're fired for a myriad of reasons some of which include inciting too much controversy...wouldn't that be a case? Not quite the same thing and a little extreme but that would be essentially what is happening.

I think they think there's some sort of firewall there because it's sports and these guys are public figures.

Let's just say I wouldn't be the guy hosting the fund raising drive on my website or paying for the mobile billboard. ;)

The right way to do it, is to actually show up at the stadium and show a sign from your seat. Or chant "Fireland". That way, Ross sees that paying customers are dissatisfied.

    Your absolutely right....

They better step their game up. I'm the critic's biggest critic, and i'll be sporting a sign from my seats, discrediting their notions. Will be hard for camera crew NOT to put me on the big screens. I'll also be giving Henne a warm welcome. Show some class Dolphin fans !

You should have donated that $20 spot to a homeless shelter or Sandy relief...a) won't do any good. Ross will make that decision in spite of a faction of fans opinion and b) there just aren't enough fireland supporters anyway... Besides, those other charities could have made much, much better use of the $20....

It would be if he wasn't a public figure. Ireland is widely known as the dolphins gm. Hes been on espn, gets talked about and talked to by reporters. In fact that issue with Dez Bryant made him one of the most widely known gms in the league. So being a public figure basically means it's free game for you, or I, or anyone else to publicly question him. Same goes for Obama, Tom cruise, Kobe Bryant, or anyone else. You want to be famous? Deal with it.

Now if he stepped down from the dolphins gm job, got an office job in Kansas, and this dude is still paying for a truck to drive around that building to fire Ireland, well then you have something.
