Just picked the basic game up for PC. Got it and Dragon Age 2 for $4. Need to find time to play now (and tie to get used to mouse and keyboard probably).

How is this game? I've been a Call of Duty guy forever and thinking about making the switch. Any of you play cod and this game, which is better? And I am mostly referring to the online aspect.

They're different games. CoD is more individual oriented. It's you against the other guy. Battlefield is more team and objective oriented. If you try to play it the way you play CoD, you're screwed. The maps are larger, there are vehicles that WILL destroy you, and the weapon loadouts won't make you any more of a badass than the other guy.

Anybody use a 360 controller on this game for PC? Even just on vehicles?

I just started the campaign to see what it looked like, and wow. It looks great. I think my PC runs most everything set on high except textures it put on ultra (those are my auto-settings). I'm gonna try the campaign out in 3D sometime too I think.

You will be at a serious disadvantage if you try to play on foot with a controller. Even vehicles, I just cant see an advantage to using a controller really. If it is something you are comfortable with, by all means, use what you are best at. I haven't played the campaign at all. Straight online from minute 1.

I figured it'd be a disadvantage on foot, but I didn't know if anyone used it for vehicles. Because I have to take the time to set it up under joystick if it works well on vehicles, but if it's easy enough to drive/fly with the keyboard I won't spend the time.

Driving is no issue at all with mouse and keyboard. Flying is a different story. You can get pro at it, but it takes time regardless. I can't fly for shhh. With that being said, maybe air vehicles will be easier with pads.

Well I have a logitech g940, would that be better to use than a 360 controller?

It might actually very well be. Battlefield's air vehicles don't have the same sort of air controls you'd find in, say, Saints Row 3. (I loved the flight controls in that game.) It's a weird mix of attempted accuracy and video game logic. You can try the 360 controller, since it probably works fine on the actual console—I don't know of any console Battlefield 3 players who can't fly planes or helicopters—but the G940 might be your buddy if you're really dedicated to the air.

Me, I'm happy shooting you flyboys out of the sky with Javelins.

Stitches, a joystick is much easier apparently.

Desides, I wish people actually use Soflams enough to consider it.

Tooting my horn a moment, I used to be an absolute nightmare in Battlefield Vietnam using the F-4 (napalm, smells like victory <3) and the Mig-21(strafing&anti-vehicle).

Easily some of my most proud and memorable kills in my gaming history. I simply cant explain how awesome it is to land the perfect napalm drop on a squad of NVA that you saw coming out of a tunnel they just burrowed! Some of the dogfights in BF Vietnam you could get into...simply amazing. It's a little unfortunate that the modern games(BF2-BF3) dont seem to have the same effect, but I suppose its simply due to modern avionics & AA tech that makes dogfighting a much different experience.

I really wish DICE would go back and remake 1942 and Vietnam....It's what got me into the series in the first place, and the "battlefield" setting works so much better in those theaters because warfare was still very large scale back then.

Definitely need another Vietnam oriented battlefield. Another WW2 one can wait though because we need a BF 2143 first.

All Premium Edition versions (PS3/360/PC) on sale at Amazon (and I believe Gamestop) for $40. Cheaper than the premium service by itself.

God these graphics are so amazing, the lighting is just unreal for a game. Even when you go to the aircraft carrier, the water is pretty slick (motion doesn't seem fake).

I suck with a kb/m though. I have to think so much when I'm moving.

    Keyboard and mouse.

I think I'm on Ultra settings. Well, it's "custom" with detail (I believe is the term) Ultra and everything else on High.

    Ahh, gotcha.

I'm the same way when I try to play COD on my buddy's PS3. I find myself looking at the sky most of the time lol. Don't worry, its BF afterall. Just camp and enjoy precision aiming with a mouse.

The lighting is a little overdone, IMO. Especially the end-of-the-world solar flare the sun is giving off. At first I thought everyone was fighting because the world was about to end and all the countries just said "screw it, we're taking you out".

I just got my new rig not too long ago (i7-3770k-asus z77 mobo-gtx 560ti) and can play on ultra settings, and did for i don't know, 5 minutes. I'm stuck on Borderlands 2 at the moment, so I really haven't gotten a chance to appreciate the graphics. I will though, as I was playing on medium before the new rig.

Anybody have in on PS3? I haven't read the thread. I don't have a rig (for now) that can handle the game. Thinking bout picking it up. Are the DLCS worth it?

I hope you're using an Nvidia 6 series card with Borderlands 2. Physx makes a noticeable graphical difference.

I Have an EVGA GTX 560ti and have PhysX on High. Great great effects in that game. Im running the game on all the highest settings and draw distances, and turned the texture shader off so high res texs load right away.

You can get BF-Premium for $40 as per Stitches. I paid $60 and $50 for original and premium. With the packages out there, it doesn't matter if the DLCs are worth it (which they most def. are) because the whole package is cheaper now. Just make sure to buy the Premium Edition.

My monitor's max resolution is 1680 x 1050, so i don't really strain the 560ti all that much and it should therefore last me some time. I have a solid base where I know the only upgrade I will have to do is on the vid card. Maybe as soon as Arma 3. But, until then, no point spending money. Heck, I may upgrade when 680s are on sale. Or maybe 760 Ti......

Well, looks like I'm about 2 years too late, but I will finally have a working PC to run this!
I remember being sooooooo excited for it, getting ready to build a rig...but it wasn't meant to be at that point in my life and I decided to concentrate on school.
I think i'll just buy the "Everything Included" version on Origin. I've played it a bit on my friend's rig. I loved the game, but he had ****ty internet and no DLCs so I didn't have as much fun as I hoped to.
    Now..the wait is over.

Cool man. You should be able to get a great deal on the full package. My origin is Tone_E_10. Feel free to add me.

I've also been playing with the same bunch of guys ever since BF2:PR and we have a teamspeak server. If any of you guys wanna get on voice and rip some shh up, let me know.

PS. I like to lone wolf in BF, but we can still be in the same squad. :)

I'm desides01 on Origin. Since we're in the same region we'll probably be on the same servers. I'm up for it if you need a squad mate.

I'm going to copy-paste from another forum.

Note that you must be looking at the target when pressing Q for the effect to occur. But for the love of Ares, press Q.

So, I'm trying to get the L96 assignment completed. One of the requirements is a 350 meter headshot.

So, I go to Gulf of Oman and sit myself down at point B, facing toward the skyscraper at point E. There are two snipers and an engineer up there. They don't notice me. I go prone and start aiming, waiting for one of them to stop moving. The engineer stops moving first, since he's trying to aim a javelin. I aim, fire… miss. Engineer is still standing there, so I try again. I aim, fire… HIT. BOOM, HEADSHOT. I start celebrating, and then the point award text appears.

    Marksman 340.

    I was short 10 meters.

    FFFFFFFFFFUUUU—

Update: I went back to Oman and camped on the smaller skyscraper. I plucked off some engineer catfish at point A. 421 meters.

    No more L96 for me!

LOL, and congrats. I actually like the L96 when sniping. My preference is the M98B, then the EMR M39 (semi auto).

Setup, I like the bipod over the straight bolt. I really have no need to keep my scope on the enemy while reloading when using a bolt action. And that is it. No other attachments. No laser, tac light, silencer, or anything. That is because of the type of sniper I play, which is a longer range. I won't be an assault type sniper with the sks, acog, and a laser. I'd much rather go assault and burst fire the L85 or M416.
