I think a plain "Jets Suck" would be perfect.

 

Not trying to piss on a perfectly good idea but I think it would be more appropriate to discuss this only if our friend loses his fight. Just doesn't seem right to discuss a way to memorialize someone who is still fighting the good fight.

i disagree. It needs to be changed to something. If changing it to honor a guy like Jetssuck during his fight against cancer isn't good enough, then I don't know what is. Why do you feel it appropriate to only honor people posthumously rather than when they're alive when they can actually see how much they're loved and appreciated? That's one of the problems with this country. We don't show enough friggin appreciation to people while they're alive.


If he beats this thing, then JS Bump is still appropriate b/c it serves to honor a great guy who fought the fight and won.

I do. I personally don't think it should be so direct. Anyone who knows him will know what JS Bump means, so there's no need to make it so direct (IE: Jetssuck). It depersonalizes it IMO. Plus, Jetssuck can get lost in translation down the road and subsequently end up taking on new meaning. I dont like it.

Todd, my perspective came from trying to put myself in JS' shoes. Would this be something I would want in his situation? The answer, yes I'd appreciate the support but I wouldn't want it to be because I am perceived to not have long to live. Know what I mean?

So yes, I agree with everything you're saying here. I just think the focus needs to be on supporting someone going through a tough fight and not on someone who is dying.

 

How can it get lost in translation when the ones who know what it means will always know, and the ones who don't know what it means will come in here not knowing what it means. Therefore it can't become lost in translation. JS Bump would be familiar to only those who know him, making that more personalized than Jetssuck which can take on many meanings.


if I were battling cancer, I wouldn't want the thank you button named "Toddsphins". That would make me feel uneasy, as if you're glorifying me rather than a subtle TP Bump. And if I know JS, he wouldn't want it named Jetssuck either if he had a say so in it.

 

Personally, his username "Jetssuck" in it's simplicity and COMPLETE truth always brings a smile to my face. I'd like to remember that, and not dumb it down for the purpose of placating Jets fans. Who cares what they think? No offense to our Jet fan friends of this board.

One reason I like Jetssuck is that it fits in the sense if we were all sitting in a bar, Jetssuck would be a perfect replacement for the word "cheers".

If I were batting cancer I wouldn't care what people did to honor me. I would be too busy thinking about the cancer.

 

I prefer JS bumps to jetssuck. The latter just sounds like we're b!tching about a rival rather supporting a friend.

 

I get what you're saying. It's only about supporting him through a tough time. No matter the outcome, the thanks buttons is still worthy of JS Bump in honor of one of our very own who's had to fight such a hard fight.


Generally speaking, I know that JS understands he's in a tough situation and might not make it, so I'm personally not gonna disrespect him by tippy toeing around it or throwing out tons of deflating sympathy. He's probably lived more in 50 years than most do in 80, and he'll probably create more memories during the next year than most of us will in the next 10, so all I can do is raise my glass to our friend and toast him.

I know one thing. He probably wouldn't want anyone arguing over it. If the mods agree with the course of action better they either just decide, or make a new poll and be done with it.
