This is the first I've heard about this.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Five Ohio State football players, including quarterback Terrell Pryor, must sit out the first five games of the 2011 season for accepting improper benefits, the NCAA ruled Thursday.

A sixth football student-athlete must sit out the first game in 2011 for receiving discounted services in violation of NCAA rules.

All of the players be eligible for the Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl, however.

Five players were found to have sold awards, gifts and university apparel, plus receiving improper benefits in 2009. In addition to missing five games next season, Pryor, Mike Adams, Daniel Herron, Devier Posey and Solomon Thomas must repay money and benefits ranging in value from $1,000 to $2,500. The repayments must be made to a charity.

Jordan Whiting must sit out the first game next year and pay $150 to a charity for the value of services that were discounted because of his status as a student-athlete.

The NCAA announced the suspensions on Thursday, shortly before Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith and coach Jim Tressel were to meet with reporters to discuss the university's investigation of players trading autographs for tattoos.

Sounds like some of the "free gifts" were Tattoos!

I don't think this is going to sit well with Pryor's teammates. Everything I know, they are not big fans of him anyways and this only adds to it.

Colin Cowherd said that Pryor sold team apparel and other stuff to "help out his mom" in 2009.

if he sold his own accolades to help out his family in tough times, then i dont see a problem at all. i see a responsible young mang willing to put his family over his own ego and trophies. sounds like the exact opposite of a problem to me. especially with all the recent drama and stories about players getting paid to play college ball.

couldnt care less about signing autographs for tattoos either. is there a rule against him signing auto graphs? is there a rule agaist him having or getting tattoos? the only thing i see with this issue at all, is that if he charged with exchanging autographs for tattoos, and that actually is a rule.... its a stupid rule, and he is stupid and lazy for being caught breaking it.
neither act gives him or his team any kind of advantage or does any harm to anyone. the 5 game suspension sounds very harsh to me, if thats all accusations. sounds more like he is being punished for something not being mentioned.

Who ever of this group of suspended players can declare for the draft will most likely declare.....missing nearly half the season doesnt make sense.

Yikes I heard rumblings of of players selling their autographs for Tattoos but how stupid can you be? I guess its a good thing were getting the talented Braxton Miller who will be 10x better than Pryor. I wonder if Boom, and Posey make the leap into the draft then.

Yup, that's what my fiance and I were talking about.

I would think Posey and Pryor may come out now. It really doesn't make sense (to me) to miss half a season.

I'm not sure that coming out early would hurt their stock much more than missing the 5 games. Maybe they wouldn't be hurt much at all by the suspension though.

Adams, and Posey will likely declare.....the others if they do come, out stand the risk of not being drafted.

I think they all declare. Missing basically half of next season is a joke. I would rather all of them be suspended for the Sugar Bowl.

I would like to keep Posey, but I have zero problem losing any of the others. They have all been a tad disappointing and I certainly won't miss them.

WR is quite thin next year. If Saine stays we need to move him to WR.

Well, recall the amazing Cam Newton Suspended/Eligible saga?

The NCAA has it's own agenda with billions in TV revenues at stake.

Oh, but they did suspend Ridley Scott..

So apparently OSU suspended them for the Sugar Bowl but the NCAA over turned that decision. I would rather them be suspended for the sugar bowl. Well at least we get to see sexy Braxton Miller and Rodrick Smith early.

    Im glad.

Win the bowl game and its a succesfull season with this group. But this is not a "great team" by any stretch of the imagination. Im ready to move on from Pryor as he is maxed out from a talent standpoint imo, move on to the new era of Ohio State football and a team the is better than good enough.

No link, sorry. It's something I heard a few months ago. I know it may be hard to believe but its true. Seniors were polled by NFL Scouts on Terrelle Pryor and they said he was egotistical and always wanted things his way.

I hear you. I'm in the same boat with Harris of Miami. For the love of God, I hope Al Golden can turn this program around and back to their winning ways.
