4. I think if you want to pry Jason Taylor from the Dolphins, you should place a call and offer a low first-round draft choice. Bill Parcells will not only listen, he'll make the deal. To me, the perfect team to make this call is San Diego, sitting at 27 with a chance to get the perfect bookend to Shawne Merriman to torment the passer. That could be the difference-maker in finally beating the Patriots in January. good read link http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/04/24/Fivethings/index.html
I have not liked much of anything King has done lately, but this took me by surprise and it makes sense. I keep tossing out the Iggles and the Jags, but yeah, the Chargers are in a position where JT could really help them, and a loss of a 27 now to a team as deep and talented as SD will mean much less than a team like the Vikes with big needs giving up 17 and some 3s. How nice would it be to hit at 27 and take JTs replacement in Groves, then still have our deuces to nab a LB/CB/OG/QB.
Yeah, because im sure that Merriman and Jason Taylor would just LOVE to play on the same team with one another! But... the more I think about it, and the potential extra picks we could get, the more I'd like to deal JT
I've posited before that a coach like Belichick who has accomplished so much but may want to make one more push before he retires may see perfect value in a guy who would be the last piece of the puzzle instead of a low-1st round rookie who might not perform at his best level for 2-3 years. If we package JT with our 57th or 32nd, we could see a trade for as high as New England's 7th, because no matter how good a player that might be there - let's say Gholston - the chances are much greater that he would not produce at a pro bowl level within NE's present talent-versus-cap window, than that he would help them win a Super Bowl this year or next. Coaches who could be intrigued by this scenario are Belichick, Holmgren, Andy Reid, Tony Dungy, and Mike Shanahan. GM's who could find this scenario attractive for much the same reasons are Marv Levy and Ozzie Newsome. A HC who could be super-interested because his job could be at stake if he doesn't raise the level of play of his talented team is Norv Turner; another is John Fox; yet another is John Gruden. Scott Linehan might fit in that category as well, and like Turner has familiarity with Taylor. A HC whose Defense has been decimated in free agency and who - let's face it, was lucky as all hell last year anyway - is Tom Coughlin. So there is logic to this hypothesis, it all depends on whether only two or three of those scenarios have any legs at all; the rest is all about how well the Parcells team negotiates and possibly, how much they're willing to package along with Taylor to move into the part of the round they're targeting. That we will move Taylor is all but a foregone conclusion to my way of thinking; we'll see what he's worth soon enough. (prev posted in club)
That deal makes sense, it also would put JT closer to LA and the movie industry. Hmm how about JT, and their #57 back for their #27 this year and a #2 next year?
Unless you give the Chargers a pick back, like number 63, it won't happen. They still need a RT and this trade would eliminate just about any chance they have of finding a starter through the draft.
Clayton says not even a 2; Schefter says a 2; king a 1; and Casserly said a 2 wouldn't be out of the question. survey says: 2
If it is to the Chargers, a 2 isn't possible, maybe a #3 and a #1 next year would work. (Gotta love the Richard Dawkins reference )
We all knew that King is in Parcells back pocket...I guess this proves it...Whenever Bill wants something to get out...is comes from King... But, hey I'd deal him even if it's not for as much as we'd like (or as much as his value really is). Now, if by some chance Quentin Groves falls to #32, I'd be betting the house that he is gone...but that's a big if...
I don't know why Colts aren't players for Jason Taylor. Must go against their philosophies. Imagine if they put Dwight Freeney opposite Jason Taylor in that D! It might what they need to overcome their current malaise.
