Charlie Crist's "Point of Light" award, in recognition of the Hall of Fame quarterback's work for autism research. Marino and his wife Claire founded the Dan Marino Foundation in 1992, the first of many initiatives the couple has taken on to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. Crist says Marino's "passion and dedication has led to innovative advancements in treatment and improved the quality of life of thousands of individuals." Marino's foundation has raised more than $28 million for medical research. The Point of Light award is given weekly to a Floridian who demonstrates exemplary service to the community.
