• Some feedback from three NFL scouts on the Dolphins’ draft: One said fourth-rounder Edmund Gates is a better receiver than fellow Abilene-Christian alum Johnny Knox, who had 51 catches for 960 yards for the Bears in 2010: “The guy could be a steal. With his speed and explosiveness, he should have been a second-rounder.”
Though H-back/fullback/tight end Charles Clay’s blocking was questioned, the scouts love his versatility and skills as a receiver.
One scout from a perennial playoff contender said his team rated Mike Pouncey as a late first-rounder: “Fifteen is not good value for him. He’s not nearly as athletic as his brother, and the shotgun snaps are a concern.”
But another scout who interviewed him said, “He will be a good 10-year starting center. You could tell he has great leadership qualities and competitiveness.”

I really disagree with that scout on Mike Pouncey relative to Maurkice Pouncey. Mike has always been the better athlete, while Maurkice has been the stronger one. I don't have the bench numbers for either guy, but the movement numbers support my contention as does the film of Mike blocking on the second level. I also think that anybody who watched Mike's shot gun snaps all year (rather than just highlights) would have seen that by the end of the year they were no longer a concern. I really think that that quote came from one of those scouts that just parrots an opinion (like the 'lesser twin') without really doing much unbiased analysis.
NAME POS 40 SPEED 3-CONE SHUTTLE VERTICAL BROAD BENCH
Maurkice P OC 5.29 7.74 4.92 -- 95 --
Mike P OC 5.12 7.66 4.64 25.00 96 --

Pound the rock? Sounds like YOUR stronger than this guy....ill settle for disruptive pass catching TE who comes in on obvious passing downs.

Eh, blah blah blah, did not think Pouncey was a good value, do think he will be a fine player in the NFL for a long time in that sense like Vontae Davis or Big Jake, Pouncey is the ghost of Parcells saying "you cannot miss on 1st rd picks, take a sure thing over potential with them", not sure how long we can do that however.
For example, Jason Allen is a pick Parcells never would have made, he'd take 5 Pouncey's first.
With these Rook players so much of their success or failure is predicated on opportunity and how well the staff can properly utilize what it is they do well, if Gates is not a great route runner can they create a matchup that uses his speed? If Clay is not a great blocker can they scheme to create a mismatch in the passing game and not require him to block?
That is outside of the players control. -
