I saw this on the local TV news about 2 months ago. If you or any family members live in Florida or have lived here, passed away as residents, etc, it would behoove you to look into this.

Alex Sink, the Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida, has put up a website called Florida Treasure Hunt :

    http://www.fltreasurehunt.org/

I found about $ 7,000 that I will share with my brother as heirs of my Grandfather and Uncle. They both had long forgotten life insurance policies that had been turned over to the state. I also found that I had a refund check sent by my car insurer that was returned after I moved from one residence to another. Its only $ 64 and some change but its $ 64 that is mine and not the states.

There is a process and yes you will need copies of death certs for family members so you can prove your rights to the monies.

Be sure to check it out, you have nothing to lose. Keep checking it from time to time because other things might be posted as they come to the state.

Well my great-great-grandmother was a Floridian Cree Indian, but since her entire culture was wiped out, I wont be able to do so. Oh well.

I'm not sure, I did a search in Pennsylvania and they don't list amounts. I'll leave that to the parents to find out and take care of.

Actually there are a few sites out there that do this kind of thing for pretty much every state, and even the federal government. All kinds of monies not paid but still registered and waiting to be claimed by a legal heir to it. Tax refunds, insurances, stocks/bonds etc etc.
